Caroline Brazier - BACP accredited psychotherapist
Life can be tough and we all sometimes need someone caring and supportive to talk to, who wont judge us or be shocked by what we say. At the same time, sometimes, when we talk a situation through things get easier. We can even have a wry smile as we recognise the bitter-sweet irony of our situation. Counselling and psychotherapy create spaces where you can talk about things which bother you and find a listening ear. As a therapist, I am not going to tell you what to do or impose my ideas on you, but I will help you to find the space and the confidence to look at what is really troubling you and perhaps to start to see it differently or make practical changes.
I am a BACP accredited psychotherapist with more than twenty years experience and whilst I currently work in private practice, in the past I have worked in many community settings. I think I am pretty down to earth in my approach. Life experience and my time with many clients and students over the years has shown me that things are rarely as simple as they seem. I am always learning, and each new person brings a different perspective on life. I hope we can work together to find the right way forward for you.
My practice is in the centre of Narborough village, just three minutes walk from the station so Im easy to reach from Leicester. You can park in the drive of the house if you come by car.
I work with individuals and couples and, in addition to psychotherapy, I offer supervision and training. I also work outdoors, offering ecotherapy and ecotherapy supervision.
Training, qualifications & experience
BACP accredited since 1998
MPhil Counselling Studies 1998
Diploma in Counselling 1990
Diploma in Groupwork 1990
Certificate in Supervision 1999
First degree & PGCE 1978
I originally trained in person-centred approach and this still influences my approach, but I now work in an other-centred model. I have also been substantially influenced by psychodynamic models and psychodrama. My work tends to be process led and sometimes, but not always, uses creative methods. These can help you to express and explore things which are difficult to put into words. I work outdoors as well as indoors so you can opt for ecotherapy, or stay cosyand warm inside as you wish.
In addition to having a private practice as a psychotherapist, I have also worked in education and in community work and for about 12 years I offered group and individual psychotherapy for a voluntary sector project in Newcastle upon Tyne which worked with women who had issues around food and eating.
I can be flexible in the way I approach our work together. Usually I suggest we have an initial session and see how we get on, then we can agree on how often to meet and maybe for how long, though more commonly we leave things open ended. I often see people weekly, but this is negotiable. For some people long term therapy is valuable, whilst for others a few sessions can be enough. Some people need time and space and a solid caring relationship in order to feel at ease in their lives, whilst others just want a helping hand in a difficult patch. Finding out what works for you is part of the process.
