About me

If you've come to this directory of therapists, then you already have in mind that you want your circumstances to change somehow.  Maybe a change is being forced upon you, a loss of some kind.  Whatever the case,  I'm guessing you just want to feel better.    Often as much as we want to feel differently, change can still frighten us or seem beyond us.  Sometimes, we may not even know what is possible to change, let alone know how we are going to do it.  Therapy isn't just about talking about the situation, it's about being open to thinking and feeling differently to allow you to move forward in your life.

As both a counsellor and psychotherapist with years of experience, I offer therapy for a wide range of issues to help people make changes in their lives, to help people feel, think or react differently.  I also offer help when people are suffering from a loss which can feel unbearable.

How I Work: I work as an integrative therapist which means I draw on different types of counselling and psychotherapy to help people find a way forward which seems right for them, based on their individual personalities and unique life circumstances.  The therapy I offer is not about telling you what to do or staying silent for most of the session, instead it is about first understanding things from your perspective, really hearing what matters to you and then working together to heal wounds, find peace and make changes. Therapy can gently make you aware of how you might be holding yourself back and then it can respectfully help you grow stronger in dealing with things.

I offer you an opportunity to explore, reflect and grow in a welcoming, calm environment which offers a compassionate, respectful and realistic response.

My approach seeks to enable you to develop your own coping skills in a way and at a pace which feels right for you.

The therapy I offer is sometimes also about learning to accept yourself as you are, whilst exploring ways of letting go of shame, regret, anxiety and depression.

It can be about discovering a courage you never thought you had to find ways of putting things right, rather than living life in the shadow of what has gone wrong. I believe that although we cannot change our past, we can change the relationship which we have to it and in turn feel more confident and hopeful about our future.

Therapy cannot guarantee an outcome and also depends on how much you engage with it; however I perceive it is never too late to change ourselves once we set our will to do so and talking to someone outside of our situation can be the first step to changing our outlook for the better; a positive step to taking back a healthy control of our lives, no matter what our circumstances.

If you feel ready to do something to make things different and you like what you have read, please call 0742 560 7707 and leave a message or email me at lutoncounselling@gmail.com

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
