Carol Quinn - MSc, BSc , FdA, Registered Counsellor MBACP, MISMA, MBPsS

About me
Registered Counsellor and EMDR practitioner, offering therapeutic support to individuals age 19+ based in the centre of Winchester close to the railway station and free 2hour parking. I offer a FREE 30 MIN meeting to those considering working with a Counsellor. Monday and Tuesday spaces currently available in Winchester.
My work has taken me to many countries and into many and varied cultural settings. I am in my 50s and bring a wealth of both life and professional experience to my work as a Counsellor.
People consider coming to counselling for many different reasons and there is no threshold for the difficulty or pain you may be experiencing for coming along to explore what might feel right for you. Some people will consider a few professionals or types of support before deciding what feels comfortable at any time and I would encourage this.
I offer both short-term and long-term weekly sessions. I do appreciate that everyone has a life outside of the counselling room and recommend that clients attend weekly, in order to get the most out of counselling. Inevitably there will be some interruption for breaks and unexpected events. We can discuss your commitments and agree a plan together.
There is no 'one size fits all' to how I work with clients. Developing a mutual and trusting relationship is a key foundation to getting the most from counselling. I am trained in different therapeutic models and will integrate my experience and skills to ensure that I work with you in a way that pays attention to and appreciates you as an individual.
My aim is to provide a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to feel comfortable to explore any aspect of your life. Everyone works at and responds to therapeutic approaches in different ways. There is no measure or scale for being a 'good client'. Just come along and be yourself and work with what feels comfortable and safe for you.
I am on the Professional Standards Authority Accredited Register of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and practice according to their Ethical Framework. I will work collaboratively with you to provide a safe and non-judgemental space for you to explore whatever you may want to talk about.
Experienced in aspects of safeguarding, I can support you with safety planning and signposting to appropriate agencies where applicable.
Training, qualifications & experience
- MSc Psychological Trauma
- FdA Counselling (Humanistic, based on Transactional Analysis)
- Dip. Stress Management
- Cert. CBT
- BSc Psychology
Qualified EMDR Practitioner. Approved (ICISF) Instructor and interventionist for Critical Incident Stress Management (immediate aftermath of traumatic incidents)
Stress Management Consultant/Trainer
Before qualifying as a Counsellor, I volunteered with Samaritans for 6 years and with Victim Support for 4.5 years, working both face-to-face and by telephone with those experiencing difficulties in their life; including the life impact of road traffic accidents, neighbourhood crime, depression, anxiety, sexual and domestic abuse, bereavement by homicide, imprisonment, loss, experience of the Criminal Justice System and people struggling to cope with overwhelming situations, including suicidal thoughts.
I also volunteered with Andover MIND as both a Counsellor and in an Advocate role offering emotional and practical support to carers of those living with Dementia.
I have a lot of experience working with those affected by sexual and emotional abuse, including Childhood Sexual Abuse. People can carry their experiences alone for many years before feeling ready to explore support. Sometimes there can be a sudden or unexpected trigger which can change how they have been coping - this can feel confusing and scary.
In 2017, I was nominated for two international awards for Critical Incident training delivery to peers and conducting strategic and multifunctional interventions following trauma.
