About me

Are you struggling with everyday life at the moment? Do you feel you need some time and space just for you?

My role is to give you the time and space to examine and untie the tangled knot of thoughts, fears and emotions that might be creating a blockage in your life at the moment. Once we start exploring these together, you may find that each 'strand' leads to another and often these are deeply embedded and painful to untie.

Our working relationship will be based on to what suits you as an individual - you choose what you want to explore and work on and I walk alongside you at your pace.  You are unique and I will meet you without judgment and with respect.  It is important to remember that the key to successful therapeutic work is the relationship between the client and therapist.

My clients have brought a variety of presenting issues including depression, bereavement, anxiety, relationship issues, sexual, physical and emotional abuse, stress, anger issues', redundancy, general 'not being able to cope' and feelings of sadness and despair. Clients often find that the issue they come to talk about leads to other issues they may not have dealt with in the past and a different journey unfolds.  On the other hand, some find a short period of a few weeks of counselling is sufficient - they are offloading something that is weighing them down.....The first step in most cases is always the hardest, but it is worth it.

You might be thinking..."there are people far worse off than me...it's nothing really" and bury your  pain and anxiety, grin and 'pull yourself together', but those buried issues have a habit of coming back and biting us from a different angle - again and again.  It's the first step that counts.....

That's where I come in, really. To help you find out exactly what's at the root of the issue, break it down and put it back together where you are able to see it, put it in it's proper place so it doesn't keep taking you by surprise - and then you can move on.....

As a Supervisor, I incorporate this approach with a particular interest in facilitating your own growth as a Therapist as you start out on this journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Clinical Supervision and an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling (a BACP accredited qualification from CPPD Counselling School, N8), which covers a variety of counselling models, including psychodynamic, person centred, gestalt TA, CBT, and so on.

My own counselling journey has been a long one (starting in 1990) and life has taken me along some interesting paths, however, I have always found that warmth, empathy and an ability to really hear what someone is saying has allowed me to become a person that people turn to and trust. Apart from the professional skills that I possess, I have gained experience from the many challenges that life has thrown in my way and continue to be open to new ones.

I spent a number of years in Further Education, where I supported and empowered adults returning to education and worked with teenagers and young adults closely. I have also been trained to coach colleagues facing difficulties at work in the teaching profession. I have, more recently contributed to the training and tutoring of trainee Counsellors at CPPD Counselling School in N8.

My role as a Supervisor is a natural progression, incorporating both professional and personal life experience and I am particularly interested in working with Trainee Counsellors as they start their own journey into this profession.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
