Carly Radford Luminary Psychological Therapies
Hi, I'm Carly, a psychotherapist, registered nurse and owner of Luminary Psychological Therapies.
Let's be real, we live in a difficult, complicated and often unfair world. At times, life can feel like an uphill battle and naturally, because we're only human, sometimes we need help to navigate the highs, the lows, and the very lows!
The idea of therapy is worrying to some, but we all have baggage, big or small, and therapists not only help you to carry it, but they also help you to explore what you're carrying, understand and accept what you can't throw away and help to remove the things you no longer need.
Investing in yourself and your mental wellbeing is one of the best decisions you can make. Your future is decided by what you do today, so if you're considering finding a therapist, continue reading to find out more about me. Remember there are many different types of therapy and therapists out there and finding the right one for you is so important, so if you don't feel I'm the right therapist for you, I'll happily try and point you in another direction!
Training, qualifications & experience
I'm an integrative therapist and registered nurse with a broad range of experience working with adults, teenagers, children and babies.
As an integrative therapist, I have been trained in three different theories/modalities of therapy which I use together to gain a deeper level of understanding of my clients for more meaningful work, this helps to create real change. The three modalities I use are person-centered, cognitive-behavioral therapy and attachment theory. As a nurse I have worked with people in hospitals with serious health problems and those who've experienced life-changing accidents. My previous roles as a school nurse, specialist nurse for children in care, CAMHS nurse and family nurse, have given me a deep understanding of child and adolescent development, child mental health, attachment, neurodevelopmental difficulties, parenting skills, social and environmental influences and child protection/abuse. I have vast experience working with families, parents, social workers, foster carers and other professionals.
My experience in both roles consists of working with adults, teenagers and children on a wide variety of difficulties including trauma, abuse, mild-severe depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and eating difficulties.
I have specific experience, training and interest in working with three specialisms:
1. Trauma and abuse, in particular, sexual trauma.
2. Child and Adolescent therapy
3. Parent, Carer and Professional advice and consultation.
Both of my careers have provided me with the privilege of working with a diverse range of truly remarkable people. I so enjoy being a part of people's individual journeys and look forward to hearing from those who feel I'm the right therapist for them.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
