About me

Hello and welcome to my page. Although I offer counselling for a wide range of issues I specialize in, Anxiety and depression, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, historical  sexual abuse and sexual assault. Bereavement and loss, autism and ADHD and mental health disorders including borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder.

I trained to be a counsellor for many reasons but mostly for the fact that I wanted my work life to be meaningful and I have personally seen just how valuable counselling can be. I work from home in my own private practice and offer both long and short term therapy at reasonable rates. If you have any questions after reading my profile then please feel free to contact me.

How can I help

I primarily trained as a person centred counsellor, but I also draw on my integrative skills so that my counselling practice can be tailored to meet the individual needs of my clients. Person centred therapy is generally non-directive, basically it means that I will not lead you in anyway, and you will ultimately decide on what issues you want to discuss.

I can offer you a private space where you can talk about any issues you may be having without being judged. Talking with a family member or friend can of course be helpful, but you may also hold back your true feelings as you may not want to upset them or cause them any worry. Talking to someone you don't know may seem strange but it allows you to be able to speak freely which can be one of the biggest benefits of counselling. My role will be to listen and help you see things more clearly and possibly from a different view point. My aim as your counsellor will be to assist you to understand your issues and help you to cope with your feelings. Therapy will give you the time to talk, cry, shout or just think and it's all done within a safe and confidential environment.

When and where?

I have a comfortable space within my own home. Roadside parking is available directly next to my house. If you would prefer I am also available to travel and visit you within your own home for a small fee added on top to cover my petrol costs. I am available in the daytime Monday to Friday. Some evening appointments also available.

First session

There will be an initial free of charge, no obligation assessment session that will last 45mins. This will be the perfect opportunity for us to meet and to discuss what your issues are and how we can work together. This can either be done at my house, or within your own home if you wish to have your counselling there. It's vital that you feel comfortable with me and hopefully after this initial meeting you will be able to decide if you wish to have me as your therapist.

My background

My working background is primarily in mental health as I have worked in the care sector for the past 19yrs. In that time I have worked with a wide range of adults with both severe and mild learning disabilities and challenging  behaviour. I have also worked for Leicestershire police as a Police support volunteer for 5 years, working with vulnerable adults and victims of low level crime, but sadly had to resign my position in August 2019 due to a lack of time.

Counselling experience

Private practice

In my private practice I have worked with clients with a wide range of issues including PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, anger issues and also panic disorders.

As a trainee counsellor my experience was primarily in bereavement as I worked as a grief counsellor for St Barnabas Hospice based at Grantham for 4yrs providing pre and post bereavement counselling. And through St Barnabas I also worked with carers of patients and patients themselves who were either terminally ill or suffering from a life limiting illness. As a grief counsellor I worked with adults who presented with a wide range of issues because the loss of someone would often bring unresolved issues to the surface. Some of these issues included, historical abuse, relationship problems, guilt and anger.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
