About me

Namasté.

I understand that sometimes the hardest step is the first one, so thank you for being here.  I also understand that circumstances in our lives can often leave us feeling very overwhelmed.  You may be looking to change old patterns of behaviour or be facing difficulty with current issues.

How can I help you?

In a confidential, supportive, non-judgemental and safe environment, together we can explore your past and present issues and experiences, as well as your thoughts and feelings to help you to gain an awareness into your life and empower you to move towards feeling your best.  I am accustomed to and enjoy meeting people from diverse and varied backgrounds, cultures, beliefs, religions, abilities and sexual orientations. I believe each person has the ability to grow and change and it would be my pleasure to help facilitate your journey in finding ways to do so.

I have experience of working in both charity and private sector counselling working with and supporting a diverse range of client groups of various ages with issues such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Work, school and life related stress
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Self-harm
  • Relationship and family issues

My Approach

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor using the Psychodynamic and Person-centred approaches to counselling.  What this means is that we will work collaboratively in focusing on your unconscious thoughts and feelings, your current issues, needs and goals and use self-awareness to gain a greater understanding of and ability on how the influence of your past may play a role in recurring patterns of behaviours or relationships in the present day.

We will:

  • Work at a pace that is comfortable for you
  • Develop and build upon your strengths and weaknesses
  • Continuously review our therapeutic work to be sure that it is still meeting your needs

I will:

  • Commit to listening and understanding your issues from your perspective
  • Respect the difference and diversity between us
  • Be honest and open with you
  • Signpost you to other resources if need be

Your healing journey

To begin your healing journey we will start by having a telephone conversation to discuss your current needs for therapy.  You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the counselling process.  The therapeutic relationship is an important part of the counselling process, so during this time we will also have the opportunity to determine whether or not I am a suitable counsellor for you.  If you decide to continue our work together, we can then book future sessions.

Throughout our process of talking together and my reflecting back to you what I hear, feel and see we will explore patterns of behaviour and challenge your old belief systems.  Yes, at times, counselling will challenge you.  You may have to sit with some uncomfortable feelings.  However, I want you to know that this is normal.  We tend to shy away from what causes us discomfort.  This natural reaction to the emotional challenges you feel and the process of allowing yourself to listen to them will bring relief and the chance for you to experience yourself and the way you relate to others in a whole new way.

Creative tools

As part of our work, we may think about using of a variety of creative tools to explore your issues including writing, drawing, sand tray work, Oracle, spirituality and inspirational card decks, or crystals.  Using these may enable you to become more aware of patterns of behaviours and develop new ways of thinking in areas where you might be feeling stuck.

Spirituality and interconnectedness with the Universe

I am also a Certified Crystal Healer, Metaphysician and owner of Catori Collection (an online crystal and holistic store/www.catoricollection.co.uk).  I am keen on how we grow and develop as beings, therefore, I incorporate the relationship between the mind, body and spiritual aspects of your 'self' in our work.  I have knowledge on spirituality that involves experiences you may be having in finding a deeper sense of meaning, purpose and connection with the Universe.  I will offer you the space and time to explore what spirituality means for you, help you to cope with change and uncertainty as it relates to spirituality and to help you understand your life's greater purpose.

Crystals

A lot of times we carry negative energies, whether they are our own or belonging to others.  I believe that crystals have a way of helping to rid of these negative energies and in turn help us to heal our emotions and restore balance back into our lives.  I have a small selection of crystals in the therapy room and I am very open to you selecting and holding one (or more) whilst we discuss your issues together.  We may then look at why you chose a specific crystal, what Chakra it is associated with, what the crystal represents for you and what it is that you may be feeling or thinking when holding it.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
