About me

My extensive experience of working with people with therapeutic issues began in 1982.  Since then, some of the areas I have worked in have been private and voluntary sectors, including alcohol rehabs, sexual health, HIV services and special needs. I managed and supervised the therapy team at Surrey Docks Health Centre, London SE16 where I worked for 16 years. My role was also to see patients presenting with issues which require a particular maturity of experience and specialism. In addition to private clients I also see those insured with BUPA and other insurance companies as well as Employee Assistance Programmes and offer trauma reprocessing. Currently I am part-time Principal Clinical Supervisor for Insight Healthcare, Talking Therapies, Kent for whom I have worked since 2011. I also provide Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression Supervision and Meta Supervision in NHS IAPT services across the country, working for Metanoia.

I have over 30 years of working therapeutically with clients initially training in 1991 at Metanoia. During this time I have been described as a warm, empathic, trustworthy, caring, professional who is easy to connect with. The majority of my referrals come from self referrals, insurance companies, colleagues, recommendations, GP's and psychiatrists.

As an EMDR Europe accredited therapist, currently I am offering online EMDR for those suffering with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and complex trauma in order to support the additional complex aspects of the unique challenges  posed by the Covid situation.  The outcomes of EMDR as a time limited therapy are proving to be really beneficial in helping people develop resilience, reduce their anxiety and help to heal PTSD.  EMDR is recognised by the NICE Guidelines as an effective treatment for processing trauma related symptoms and many other anxiety related problems. My trauma work does include treatment for accidents.  I am an associate of a trauma service and do offer EMDR to front line personnel.

Nature and Walking Therapy are what I do offer in person.

The wide range of problems I work include post natal depression, anxiety, abuse, anger management, panic, couples counselling, fear of conflict, depression, sexual problems, stress, low self esteem, addictions, self-harm, eating issues, difficulties with relationships, separation and divorce, trauma, OCD, bereavement, health related problems, as well as many other distressing issues. See areas of counselling at the bottom of the page.

It is the quality of the therapeutic relationship that underpins personal development. My belief is that 'you are wiser than you know' and our work together helps you access your inner resources and skills to enable you to manage your problems and to assist in your healing process.

I have been Senior Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy since 2007. I am a member of the Centre for Psychosexual Health, College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT), the United Kingdom Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (UKAHPP) and the EMDR Association UK.   I offer individual and relationship therapy to same sex and heterosexual couples, as well as specialising in psychosexual difficulties. These may include: problems arising from birth trauma, sex addiction (including internet pornography), partners of sex addicts, sexual abuse, problems with intimacy, sexual identity, sexual dysfunction, painful sex, erectile problems, rapid ejaculation, gender dysphoria, medical/organic problems, lack of desire and arousal, infidelity etc.

I am also a United Kingdom Registered Counsellor Psychotherapist (UKRCP). My ethos is humanistic/integrative with a basis in the Person Centred Approach, working collaboratively without judgment and being honest and transparent in the therapeutic relationship.

During my career I have acquired a wealth of knowledge and wide ranging experience and offer a professional, safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment in which to explore psychological and emotional difficulties. I can be contacted in complete confidence and that an initial consultation, for which I do charge, does not commit you to further sessions.

My practise as a clinical supervisor began in 2000. I offer group and individual supervision to accredited therapists and trainees as well as psychosexual supervision.  I also qualified at Metanoia as a Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression Supervisor providing supervision in NHS IAPT services.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
