About me

I am an accredited counselling psychologist offering confidential short-term and long-term psychological therapy. I currently work online and offer face-to-face sessions in East Lothian and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

I am integrative in my therapeutic approach, valuing the development of a strong therapeutic relationship. I have training in person centred therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I also draw upon mindfulness and acceptance based approaches, compassion-focused therapy and schema therapy in my practice.

There can be many reasons why someone might seek psychological therapy. At times changes or transitions in life can be difficult to manage or feelings of anxiety, stress, loss or hopelessness can become too much to cope with on our own.

As a counselling psychologist, my hope is to provide a safe, empathic and non-judgmental space where you can explore such experiences or difficulties and be supported towards alleviating feelings of distress. I strive to work in a collaborative and integrative way which allows the therapy to be tailored to your own individual needs and goals.

I am experienced in working with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, loss and bereavement, social anxiety, phobias, relationship difficulties, loss, obsessive and compulsive thoughts and behaviours, physical health issues, trauma and addictions, among many others.

Evening appointments are presently available.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a doctorate in counselling psychology from Glasgow Caledonian University and honours degree in psychology from University of Abertay, Dundee.

I have worked therapeutically in the NHS and voluntary sector in both adult mental health and addiction fields.  I also have over 14 years experience working within social care with adults, families and young people affected by homelessness, mental health issues and addiction difficulties.

Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

What is Counselling Psychology?

As a relatively new branch of applied psychology, counselling psychology utilises psychological theory and research within therapy to work with a variety of life difficulties and mental health issues. Counselling psychologists embrace a humanistic perspective.  Whilst understanding diagnosis within the medical context, the profession values the subjective experience of clients and seek to engage in a holistic, collaborative and meaningful way to improve wellbeing, enable change and alleviate distress.
