About me

I am accredited by The UK Council for Psychotherapy as a Neurolinguistic Psychotherapist. I have a broad base work background that has equipped me with a vast resource of experiences that are invaluable to me as a therapist, enabling greater understanding and effective progress in your therapy.

I have recently launched Northern Ireland's first clinic treating obesity and eating disorders using evidence based psychological treatment models. Life Therapies Clinic offers specialist, integrative and psychodynamic treatment for obesity management, weight management and eating disorders. We offer expert and holistic support for anorexia, bulimia, compulsive and binge eating disorders and other associated mental health conditions.

We are living in stressful and difficult times, and at some time in our lives we may feel overwhelmed and need help dealing with our problems. Every day more and more people need help with feelings and problems that seem beyond their control – whether those problems are with an eating disorder, food or weight issues, family situation, job loss, relationships, the death of a loved one, depression, stress, anxiety, panic attacks, trauma (PTSD), or addiction.

At Life Therapies Clinic, we wish to address and successfully treat moderate to severe mental health issues. Life Therapies Clinic is a Professional, Caring and multi Therapeutic Service. Our approach is fully holistic and incorporates psychological interventions with nutritional support and mind/body therapies to initiate and facilitate a process of positive change in all areas of life. We value your privacy greatly and work within a strict set of ethical and professional guidelines. Your safety and confidentiality are paramount.

We are a team of leading professionals in the field of psychological interventions and personal change. Our team includes UKCP accredited psychotherapists, eating disorder clinicians, registered & accredited coaches, nutritionists and holistic therapists.

Our professional training programmes and workshops are specifically designed to provide you with an optimum learning environment to meet your outcomes. Our programmes are experiential and the combined skills of our trainers means that you will work with like-minded individuals who are keen to explore models of excellence and draw from the latest thinking in clinical psychology, psychotherapy, coaching and health psychology.

After qualifying as a psychotherapist I have further trained at the National Centre for Eating Disorders in London and am member of their professional network.

I am a BPS Accredited Associate Trainer for The National Centre for Eating Disorders in London, delivering their Master Practitioner Programme for Eating Disorders and Obesity in Northern and Southern Ireland. I further deliver accredited and certified training for clinical weight management and food/mood/nutritional interventions.

In order to recover properly, a person will change in a number of aspects:

Obviously; eating regularly and healthily, sufficient to sustain daily energy needed to maintain an appropriate healthy weight. The person is able to take care of themselves with food, eat when hungry and able to stop when they had enough. He/she will be free of compulsions to binge or purge, or exercise harmfully, and there will most certainly be no need to embark on diets. One part of the recovery process is dealing with the physical and nutritional imbalances that lead to irresistible cravings and difficulties with weight control.

Recovery involves freedom from anxiety and fear of foods, or of certain foods like fats or carbs. Toxic shame about eating and body image will be resolved. Recovery is more than dealing with feelings about food and weight; it will involve helping the person to manage and deal with all their feelings appropriately, including those which have been linked to previous unhappy experiences. Sometimes an eating disorder is an expression of emotional pain. We will heal this pain.

The struggles for control which are part of an eating disorder usually point to many other things in life being “out of control”. An important part of recovery is helping a person to re-set and repair their relationships with their families and other people. We will help you find the best you can be in your education, your career and your most important relationships.

Your eating disorder mindset

Unhelpful thoughts, beliefs and values regarding food and body image lead directly to behaviour which can sometimes feel crazy. Recovery means less thinking and worrying about food and exercise, and more interest in everything else. You will be able to sleep at night without obsessing about tomorrow or yesterday. Perfectionism, I’ve blown-it thinking,  and beating oneself up are all aspects of eating disorders which we will change, for good.

Happiness & purpose

A sound recovery must be based on reclaiming what was missing in a person, that enabled the eating disorder to take hold in the first place. Recovery isn’t just about food and weight, it is finding something deeper, a new purpose in life, a sense of being connected to other people. We aspire to help people thrive, not just survive.

Just want to lose some weight?

It is hard to deal with a chronic weight problem without treatment.  Even if you do lose weight with a liquid diet or another regime, you regain it again if you are eating to manage stress and feelings. Permanent weight loss without hunger and without deprivation is possible with the right support and help.

Recovery aims

Weight management treatment starts with transforming your relationship with food and strengthening your willpower with a holistic care plan. After this it will be much easier to lose weight and keep it off. Counselling will build your emotional resources, deal with old hurts, work on the “dieting mindset” and teach you new ways of feeling in control. We start with a full assessment to help build the personalised treatment plan that is right for you.

Psychological approaches

Life Therapies practitioners draw on CBT, CBT-E, mindfulness and positive psychology approaches. Individual therapists can add other skills which are valuable and helpful in eating disorder therapy. These skills include Psychotherapy,, Eye Movement Desensitisation, (EMDR), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Hypnosis, Coaching, and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

I have a particular interest and experience in working with treatment of addictive behaviours, particularly alcohol, substance misuse, attachment disorder and borderline personality disorder. I hold specialist qualifications for working with eating disorders, Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating and Compulsive Eating Disorders and use evidence based treatment models for treatment of Obesity and Weight Management.

I also hold specific qualifications for specialist treatment of trauma, depression, stress, anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and am trained to deal with the aftermath of suicide.

I run workshops around emotional management of food/food addiction, and CBT/NLP/EFT for stress, anxiety and depression. These workshops have proved highly popular and provide delegates with a powerful range of resources and tools, as well as learning to apply the therapies to everyday life situations. I am an energetic, dynamic and extremely empathetic presenter who brings passion and energy to my workshops.

I am an Associate Trainer for BEAT Eating Disorders Charity and deliver Eating Disorder training to professionals and organisations throughout Northern Ireland.

I am an AMT approved EFT and Energy Trainer and offer certified training for: Positive EFT and EFT levels 1,2&3 to Master Practitioner Level.
