About me

Are you struggling with anxiety, low mood, deep sadness and or anger outbursts? Are you finding it difficult to talk about how you feel? Are you working hard internally to maintain a positive attitude while negative thought processes are tearing you down? Perhaps you want to try to make sense of why these feelings are affecting your everyday living, your work and your relationships?
Counselling can help you to explore difficult feelings, and support you through as you begin to gain greater insight into emotions and thought patterns which have become exhausting and confusing. Having a safe space where you will be listened to without feeling judged is essential. My aim is for you to feel heard in an environment of respect, genuineness and acceptance. This involves working with you as a whole person, mind, body and spirit, helping you to arrive at a place of growth and greater awareness.
I also have specialist knowledge of working with individuals who have experienced problems with addictions, primarily drugs and alcohol. Having approximately 20 years experience of assisting people on their journey of recovery from addiction I fully understand the process of a Twelve Step Programme. I have supported Individuals with a variety of difficulties including abuse, relationship problems and historic childhood trauma.
I have worked as a child counsellor in both primary and secondary levels where I supported and assisted young children and teenagers to make sense of their world.  I offer play therapy to very young children and supply a range of play and art materials to support this therapy. I have also supported young people within a pupil referral unit who have been excluded from mainstream education, are offending or at risk of offending.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
