Dr Rima Lamba CPsychol, Specialist in Women, Mother's and Couples Well-Being
209-211 Ashley Road
0161 696 1620
I'm a Chartered Counselling Psychologist specialising in women and mother's mental health and well-being. I have a special interest in perinatal and reproductive mental health. I also provide couples therapy. My practice is called Blue River Psychology and its based in Altrincham and Central Manchester. I provide short as well as long-term psychotherapy support.
I often see women in my practice who are struggling with postnatal depression, perinatal anxiety, birth trauma, tokophobia (fear of childbirth) and women who are generally struggling with the adjustment and transition to motherhood. I also have an interest in sexual trauma and relationship difficulties.
I work with individuals and couples who are experiencing fertility issues or pregnancy related losses (miscarriage, still birth or ectopic pregnancy) and also work with couples who are generally struggling with their relationship and connection.
Whilst my practice may seem women-centred, interestingly I do see men! Especially within a couples therapy context. I use Emotionally Focussed Therapy in couples work, which focuses on bringing attachment to the centre of the couple unit.
I am an Integrative Practitioner; however, therapeutically, I have a strong preference for attachment and psychodynamic models as they allow for greater understanding of the complexity of issues individuals maybe facing. Such approaches tend to provide a wider depth and breadth for formulating an understanding of emotional pain and/or trauma. I usually blend these approaches with ones which can help facilitate change, e.g. CBT, compassion focussed therapy (CFT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and more recently - narrative therapy approach. I bring in systemic theories, which can help facilitate an understanding of gender and how certain narratives can impact and shape gender roles and the couple relationship.
Above all, I work to ensure my clients and the couples I see, are empowered through psychological therapy.
