About me

I'm a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with a special interest in women and mother's mental health and well-being. I have a special interest in perinatal and reproductive mental health as well as an interest in culture, race and identity. I also provide couples therapy.

My practice is called Blue River Psychology and its based in Altrincham, Greater Manchester  and Chorley, which is in Lancashire.

I provide short as well as long-term psychotherapy support.

I often see women in my practice who are struggling with postnatal depression or antenatal depression and those who are just generally struggling with the adjustment and transition to motherhood.

Whilst my practice may seem women-centred, interestingly I do see men! Especially within a couples therapy context. The couples work I engage in, is informed by attachment models and emotionally focussed therapy (EFT) principles.

I am an integrative practitioner; however, therapeutically, I have a strong preference for attachment and psychodynamic models as they allow for greater understanding of the deeper difficulties people maybe facing. Such approaches tend to provide a wider depth and breadth for formulating an understanding of emotional pain. I usually blend these approaches with ones which can help facilitate change, e.g. CBT, compassion focussed therapy (CFT) and more recently - narrative therapy approach.

Above all, I wish for my clients to feel empowered through psychological therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I studied a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. Before this, I received a BSc (Hons) in Psychology (Upper-Second Class Honours).

I'm a HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist and a Chartered Member with the British Psychological Society (BPS).

I have also completed foundation training in infertility counselling at the British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA).
