About me
I am a fully-qualified psychotherapist with a well-established practice on the outskirts of Chippenham. I offer both long (open-ended) and shorter-term therapy to individual adults in a safe and confidential environment.
I see myself as a warm, empathic and approachable therapist. I understand that talking about yourself can feel daunting and frightening at first, so my aim is to make you feel welcome and at ease.
How Can I Help?
You may be feeling anxious, low, stressed, having problems in your relationships or simply feeling that you don't know who you are. As a Humanistic and Integrative therapist, my approach focuses on working alongside you to support you in a non-directive way. This can help you to gain insight and understanding of yourself and whatever you might bring to the work.
I believe that we often have a deep-seated need to feel truly heard and understood. My aim is to meet this need through the relationship that we build together. The experience of being attended to and having time to talk can be both powerful and healing.
Initial Session
The first session is a chance for you to talk about yourself and what you hope to gain from therapy. It's an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little and for us to see if we 'fit'.
I usually explain a little about the way I work and we discuss the practicalities, such as fees. If we decide to work together we will then agree upon a mutually convenient time to meet weekly.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully-qualified psychotherapist and accredited UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) member, and abide by their code of ethics.
I trained with BCPC (Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling), a highly regarded training organisation. I have an MA in Psychotherapy (Middlesex University) and hold a Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (BCPC). I have completed Levels 1 and 2 of IFS training, working towards becoming an IFS practitioner. I attend regular continued personal development.
Professional Background
I have experience working in art and design, which continues to be an interest and source of inspiration for me. I find my creativity influences my work as a therapist, and I offer an opportunity to use other therapeutic tools alongside the talking therapy (such as creative artwork and sand-tray work). I also have a background in education.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
