About me

I specialise in helping adults who are bereaved and/ or experiencing loss and change in their life circumstances

I help adults who are bereaved and/ or experiencing loss and change by exploring and validating their experience with understanding and compassion. My experience of working in the area of bereavement and loss for twenty years as a counsellor is that when your experience is validated and you feel understood at a deep intrinsic level, it naturally leads to you feeling less stuck and more able to adjust to your new circumstances, which then opens up the possibility for new opportunities and choices to emerge.

The issues I work with are:-

  • Grief, Loss, Bereavement.
  • Life transitions such as redundancy, parenthood, promotion, divorce.
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Self Esteem, Self Worth, Self Image.
  • Emotional neglect

People I work with

I work with adult clients who are self-referred, referred by their employers directly or through an EAP referral or referred by their GP practice.

How I work with you

When we are bereaved it can be a destabilising and unsettling time in which we can feel anxious, lost and alone. It can challenge what previously felt familiar and safe and leave us with more questions than answers. We may have supportive friends and family that although well-meaning just ‘don’t get it’. My belief is that we all need an attentive other that can give us the time and space we need to have all that is emerging within us validated without feeling that what we have to share will be ‘too much for the other’ or that we are ‘being a burden’.

I believe that grief is a natural process that largely doesn’t get spoken about in our culture. We receive messages from our friends and from society that urge us to ‘get over it’ and ‘get on with our lives’ In the fast-paced society we live in death and loss is an inconvenience and as such when it happens to us or to those that we love we often don’t know how to process the experience. I feel privileged to witness my adult clients emerging with a deeper connection to themselves, often with a new sense of purpose and meaning as they adjust to life without the person who has died.

Loss and grief is not just something that comes up in response to death. A new life circumstance such as redundancy, divorce, winning the lottery, marriage, a new baby or a medical diagnosis to name a few can bring up the same feelings of destabilisation, insecurity and lost feelings. In the same way, I work with adults to process the changed circumstances they are facing and to validate their experience so that they have choices going forward.

I provide a safe and nurturing counselling environment that is non-judgemental, confidential, caring, supportive and relational that encourages your natural potential to emerge.

I believe every person is born with the natural capacity to lead a rich and fulfilling life with an inbuilt capacity to heal.

I look forward to supporting you to discover more clarity, purpose, meaning and fulfilment.

Often people have conflicting push/pull feelings about embarking on therapy. They are unsure as to whether it is therapy they need or something entirely different. Many are bewildered by the wide - range of therapies on offer and what would be the best approach for them. Frequently people are concerned as to whether they will 'get on' with the therapist. All these thoughts and feelings are natural when you are considering investing your time, money and attention to something new and as important as understanding yourself better.

I am mindful of this 'pre-therapy' state and try to make this transition as easy as possible for you. I am happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Call me for a confidential chat on 07821 691 728.
