About me

Psychotherapy and Counselling in Sutton Coldfield, North Birmingham.

I have always been interested in people and the mind.

As a psychoanalytic psychotherapist I adapt my technique to the unique individuality of each person.

People who come for therapy may be seeking help for specific reasons or because of more general underlying feelings which may include low mood or anxiety, difficulties in concentrating, dissatisfaction in work or inability to form satisfactory relationships. The therapeutic relationship is a crucial element in the therapy. I offer a confidential and private setting in which to explore, understand and to identify patterns of thinking, feeling, acting and relating. Greater awareness of these patterns enables the development of the capacity to understand and change them. This form of therapy aims for long lasting change and emotional development.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy can contribute significantly to your psychological and physical health, to your sense of well-being and to your ability to manage your life more effectively and creatively.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have twelve years previous experience of working within higher education at Aston University and the University of Birmingham providing individual counselling and group work to students and staff. I supervised trainee counsellors on placement and provided training and consultation to colleagues.

Alongside this I worked privately from a group practice offering psychotherapy, counselling and training in counselling skills.

Prior to this I worked for several years with a charity in a major city offering counselling to young people aged 12 to 26. Whilst working with this agency I gave initial and ongoing training to volunteers and supervised counsellors. I held this part-time commitment alongside a fulltime position as a social worker in an adolescent unit.

I now work full time from my consulting room in a residential setting.

I am a Professional Member of the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy (WMIP) and a Registered Member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). I  completed my intensive Psychoanalytic Training in 2008 and graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1993 with a Diploma in Counselling.
