About me

Hello, my name is Beth Murray.  I am a Psychosynthesis Counsellor, accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  My motivation is to bring warmth and sincerity to each encounter.

You may want to look deeply at your life to gain self-understanding, discovery and healing, and are exploring the potential growth that  long-term counselling may bring.  Or you may want a limited number of sessions to gain clarity about a particular situation.  I respond to your needs for the pace, depth and length of time you require.

I offer appointments during the day or evenings, in central Taunton in a comfortable, pleasant room, close to car parks I work ethically, respectfully and confidentially within the BACP Ethical Framework.

At this moment you may be looking for someone to support you through a challenging time.
When we feel upset we may try to sort the situation out ourselves. Sometimes we can. Sometimes we need the support and presence of another person to explore and unravel what is going on. It may be that you want to resolve a current difficulty; you may want to understand a deeper issue; you may be aware of an habitual pattern, which recurs and inhibits your courage to change; you may want the space to pay attention to your internal world and sense of who you are.

It is my intention to provide a warm, empathic relationship where you feel safe, heard and valued when you are sharing and disclosing what is significant and meaningful for you.

Each one of us is unique and have different needs and it is for you to decide whether you would like short term or long term counselling, the depth of your exploration, and the pace towards self-awareness which feels right for you. I offer a willingness to support you without judgement.

My background in education introduced me to the importance of the development of self-esteem in each child's learning process and the value of healthy relationships. From there I began to work with groups of parents, completed a Certificate in Emotional Literacy, and later, trained as a therapeutic counsellor at the Psychosynthesis Trust, London. My intent is to support and guide clients who are exploring their emotions and together to discover the path which is emerging from within.

Psychosynthesis is a holistic therapy, which pays attention to body, mind, feeling and spirit, to bring understanding and healing. It includes all parts of our humanity and seeks to understand our character and the background to the conscious and unconscious choices we have made in our lives. As we gain understanding, we are freer to make wise and compassionate decisions for ourselves and others, and to live more fully.

I bring life experience, a meaningful understanding of my own history, a sense of engagement as a mother and grandmother, and warm attention. Regular supervision enables me to reflect on the issues which arise and how they may impact for the client and for myself.

I have a private practice in Taunton and have previously worked in a voluntary counselling setting.

If you would like a fuller picture and more information, please look at my website, www, and email me at

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

At an initial introductory meeting we would talk about the specific personal situation which has emerged for you. If we mutually connect with each other and you feel comfortable with me, and I consider I am the right person to support you, we would then arrange our sessions, long term or short term depending on your needs, days and times for appointments.
I aim to find times which appropriately fit your schedule and which include times outside working hours.
The frequency of our sessions would be mutually decided at our initial appointment.

Sessions are for one hour and are £45 per session. Concessions may be possible and depend on circumstances.
