I offer warm, focussed attention to your unique, personal issues. Profound understanding is balanced with wise and strong guidance.
Within a friendly and relaxed conversation we work together to understand what concerns you, and restructure your life by healing past and present hurts, and learning to live a future that is happier and works better for you. Being listened to and understood is immensely beneficial, and can open new horizons. Bernard can draw on a wide variety of ways of working, and find just what suites your individual requirements.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
You will make an appointment by land line or mobile phone (numbers below). Following clear directions you will enter the therapy centre. You can wait in the waiting room, sometimes with others waiting for osteopathy or other types of therapy. When called you will be welcomed into the consulting room, and chat about your issues. Many people begin with what is happening in their lives at present, or a general sense of what brings them here. Every one is different, and you will have space to find a way of expressing what is wrong. What you offer in confidence will be accepted, carefully understood and managed in a way that widens your perspective, gives you tools to cope, and ways of dealing with life more adequately.
I work in a therapy centre with other therapists in a quiet village with easy access from the A38, 15 miles from Plymouth, and about 28 from Exeter.
Training, qualifications & experience
During my long professional career I have completed 5 therapy courses, all of which required personal work and development. These have included an MSc in Psychological Counselling (Surrey University), a diploma in Psychodrama (action methods), a human relations course, and work in Gestalt, and the use of art with children.
I am currently updating my whole approach by study of a system called mindfullness, based on the science of the brain, and deeper understanding of attachment theory and the effects of early failure to attach adequately. I value these insights, and those gained through parenthood, and use them in working with others.
I am a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, and of the British Psychodrama Association. My work is supervised, and updated by work with peers.
12 years as a manager and therapist in a residential community for those recovering from emotional problems. I gained great insight into what can lead to sometimes serious problems, and the road to recovery.Four years as a team member in an eating disorders unit deepened my understanding of those issues.
I have trained staff in Nigeria, and Swedish staff in England. I have worked in a trauma team dealing with the results of trauma. In my private practice I have seen many individuals with a wide variety of issues and problems.

ISSUES I DEAL WITH.
I have experience of dealing with a wide range of issues, often with dual or multi diagnosis. As long as there is sufficient support I am prepared to discuss dealing with many different issues. What is most important is a willingness on the part of the any client to work on their issue from where they are. I will guide and support them along the way to more functional living.

HOW TO FIND ME.
The therapy centre where I work is easily located. It is opposite "The Oak" in South Brent. From Exeter turn off the A38 at the South Brent exit, take the second turn at the roundabout, cross the bridge over the A38 and take the first exit on the next roundabout. About a kilometer further on turn into South Brent at the mini roundabout, and turn right and right again past the post office. Park on that road, or round the corner in the village car park, and come under the archway where the brass plates are posted. The therapy rooms are through the door on the right, and up the stairs t o the waiting room.
Coming from Plymouth end, take the Plymouth Rd into the village, and follow the directions above.
There is a map adjoined, and you can google the road.Move back f rom The Oak, and the arch is visible on the left.
