Benjamin Symes MBACP Dip Couns
Hello, I'm Ben. Thanks for looking at my page. I'd like to explain how it might be for you to work with me as your counsellor.
Life can be tough sometimes or all the time. You may be feeling feel a range of very difficult emotions. At this time, you may need someone who is trained to support you. Working together with a counsellor may help you discover what you need, help make your choices clearer, and help you find power to act to make a difference in your life.
It can be hard to ask for help. I believe that when you are struggling you need to find someone you can come to trust. You need to find the right counsellor for you. And so I suggest we meet for one session and then you can choose if you want to carry on. After that there is no obligation to have a set number of further sessions.
How long will it take? You may want counselling around a specific issue or challenge in your life or some longer term therapy that looks at deeper patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour. It may be we start in one place and move to another. It's always up to you. I can offer short term or open-ended work, always reviewing with you how you feel, whether you are getting what you need and if you want to carry on.
My approach is person-centred. This simply means that I believe that we do have the resources to help ourselves, to find our potential, to live a more meaningful life. But I know that sometimes that can be scary, or seem impossible. Whatever you are feeling, I will do my best to understand, and will provide a safe space and a non-judgmental ear. I won't tell you what to do but instead will work closely alongside you to help you work it out. Sometimes that might mean just sitting with you in your suffering, being there with you. Wherever you find yourself, I'm always interested in different ways of helping and may offer you different ideas as to how we might address your needs. I am also always learning about my counselling work to help me offer effective practice.
How do I book a session? You can contact me by text or email to make an appointment.
Safe practice I take regular supervision with a Senior Accredited Supervisor as is required by the BACP. This helps make sure I am practising in the best way to keep my clients and myself safe and supported. I am a registered member of the BACP and abide by their code of ethics.
