About me

Why am I so pained? How can I be more content? What should I accept about myself, my relationships and my environment and what should I seek to change? How can I find meaning in my experience?

I have a strong track record in helping people to break negative patterns and alleviate and manage emotional pain.

We do this by exploring links between your past and your current experience and uncovering the primary themes and dilemmas of your life in the context of a healing relationship.

I've helped many clients with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, stress and suicidality. What makes me stand out is my willingness to go to the uncomfortable places with you. I am non-judgmental and warmly supportive and I will challenge you when needed, with candour and humour.

It can be difficult to pick up the phone to call a stranger sometimes. You are welcome to contact me by e-mail to introduce yourself, leaving phone contact details and a good time period for me to get in touch, and I'll get back to you swiftly to talk about moving things forward. Our aim? To change your life. No biggie then.

Training, qualifications & experience

I studied philosophy of mind and existentialism at Oxford University. This work continues to inform my therapeutic practice today.

I worked in the City for some years before undertaking a rigorous training with the Minster Centre. I used to work with the mental health charity Mind offering individual counselling and group therapy - this demanding experience helped make me a more seasoned professional.

I work integratively with an emphasis on psychodynamic insights into the power of the unconscious and the ways in which past experience informs how we are in the world today. I also work existentially, thinking about the dilemmas of choice and responsibility in our lives. Research indicates that these approaches are helpful across a range of presenting difficulties.

My approach aims to help you (re)discover the richness of your own unique humanity and to secure a way of being in the world with more ease, freedom and contentment, with confidence to face those painful experiences that are part of all our lives. I know that this is possible from my own professional and personal experience, even when things seem bleak. There is a way forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
