About us

Beechwood is a charity based in Stockport, established in 1990 to support people from across the Northwest affected by cancer, grief, and bereavement.

Our team of professionals are available to help with the shock of diagnosis and the emotional effects of treatments, enhanced by a wide range of wellbeing and practical support - not only for the person directly affected, but for loved ones, carers and the bereaved.

The support Beechwood offers is uniquely tailored to the needs of each client. Away from the 'one-size-fits-all' approach, Beechwood's services stretch holistically from one-to-one counselling, bereavement support, and wellbeing workshops to complementary therapies such as oncology massage therapy, reiki, reflexology, mindfulness, and a wide range of support groups/workshops.

Beechwood's services are free at the point of diagnosis which is enabled by the continued kindness and generosity of our supporters to keep the centre and its services running.

We support clients with:

  • One-to-one psychological and counselling support
  • Counselling and play therapy for children
  • Bereavement support for children, young people, and families
  • Bereavement, grief counselling and facilitated bereavement groups for adults
  • Carers' support, when coping with the difficulties and uncertainty that the illness of a loved one can bring

We also:

  • Empower clients who are ready to move on, exploring on-going support options
  • Provide guidance and support to those ready to return to work, offering a range of workshops to help with 'moving on' to life after or with cancer
