Counselling for Adults
I am able to offer counselling services from my counselling practice located in Broadstone, Poole.
Are you unhappy, anxious or struggling with day to day life? Do you wish you enjoyed life more? Have you been suffering from stress, depression or anxiety in your professional life or relationships? Perhaps you're wanting to make changes in the way that you react or feel about people or things. Together we can discuss and explore what's been holding you back, and identify the reasons for your feelings. I can help and support you to work towards making changes and moving forward with confidence to a more fulfilling life.
Counselling for Young People
Are you a young person who is struggling with anxiety or depression?
Do you find it hard to cope with school, college or university?
Together we can explore what's been happening and try to understand why you are feeling like this. We will talk about how anxiety and depression can take hold, and identify strategies and techniques to help you cope. I am here to support and encourage you every step of the way, in a confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I also offer walking therapy - traditional counselling but based outside in the fresh air, walking and talking together while also exercising, de-stressing and absorbing the sights, sounds and smells of nature.
Why does walking outdoors help with counselling? The mental health charity Mind carried out research a few years ago which showed how walking outside could help reduce anxiety and depression. Their research showed that 71% of respondents felt decreased depression and less tense after walking outdoors, while 90% felt their self-esteem increase after a walk. Combine this with talking to a therapist who is there to support you to explore your concerns and make changes, and you have a recipe for success.
I am able to meet walking therapy clients at Harbourside's beachfront location, where you would be able to get changed and store your belongings during our session.
I am a qualified counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy which means I work within the boundaries and standards of behaviour set by the BACP’s ethical framework.
I worked in the NHS for 25 years and in that time I became skilled in actively listening to patients, understanding their stories and helping them to resolve issues that were causing them distress. I realised that I wanted to develop my listening skills further to really learn to help people to explore their worries and concerns, and so decided to retrain as a counsellor in 2013.
