I imagine you might find yourself on this page feeling a bit overwhelmed by all these faces and profiles especially if you're going through a difficult time at the moment. I hope that you find some comfort knowing that your willingness to be with yourself is your first step towards your well being.
In my experience therapy works, and it works not only because of the expertise of the counsellor or psychotherapist (even though that helps a lot) but it works essentially because we are not meant to live alone, basically you are not meant to go through whatever is causing you pain alone. Even our bodies thrive through joint effort of the trillions of cells we are made of. Speaking with a friend or engaging in an activity you love might help but lacks the regular, systematic and conscious focus that therapy sessions offer.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling validated by the University of East London and accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am a member of the BACP and work in accordance with their Ethical framework for Counselling and Psychotherapy. In addition to this I have a BA in Communication from the University of Algarve, Portugal.
As part of my training I had the chance to work in a mental health association where I supported family members who were carers of individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I also worked in the student counselling service at the University of Algarve where I worked with a team of CBT(Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) psychologists. While they addressed students issues by helping them change their thoughts and behaviours to aid them short term, I worked, when it was appropriate, on a deeper level by facilitating a relationship with these same thoughts and behaviours, looking to integrate them in the longer term.
Some of the issues I am able to help with include: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, stress, addictions, bereavement, self-esteem, family and relationships, trauma, abuse, career and life choices, divorce, loss of purpose and focus, amongst others.
I am in regular supervision and I am committed to my ongoing professional and personal development in order to guarantee the deliverance of a high quality service.
