About me

I offer 1:1 counselling to adults. This can be short or long term depending on what is presented in the sessions.

I can offer evening appointments on Tuesdays.

I can offer daytime appointments  Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays)

I work with a wide range of issues; anxiety and depression, loneliness, bereavement, insomnia, relationship problems, anger, sexuality, spiritual needs, traumatic events, psychosomatic illness, etc.

I am happy to see clients from the LGBTQ+ community.

An initial one hour assessment is offered when we can discuss what is troubling you and what I can offer.
Talking through your problems helps you understand what is distressing you and why you are struggling to find solutions.
During a session we will discuss your current issues, look at why you are feeling as you are and help you move towards a resolution.

There is always a reason why we act as we do and this is often rooted in past life experiences. Counselling therefore asks you to look back to past negative and positive times to help you understand who you are today.

My approach is integrative. This means I draw from a number of therapeutic models and techniques to help you work through your issues. The level to which you work is up to you. Some clients are happy simply to talk through the problems which present themselves from week to week.
I will encourage you to go further and look in more depth about you as a person and how you relate not only to others but to yourself. For example, how compassionate can you be towards yourself and any negative part of you?
If you want to work on a deeper level this could include writing, art work, creative imagination, visualisation, dream work or Breath & Sound work.

I have a special interest in how positive and negative sound can affect us and how we hold negative events from our lives internally, leading to ill health.

I have run small group workshops 6-20 people) on:-

Sound Meditation with Mindfulness.

Breathwork for good mental and physical health

'To gain a healthy life balance we need to look at mind, body and soul, allowing each a space for expression. This starts with reflection, discovering our wounds and compassionate self-care, before finding resilience and courage to move forward in harmony with life.'

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Mindful Breath & Sound

I believe that the sounds we hear throughout our lives have a physical effect on us i.e. crashing sound can make us recoil, sounds of nature can help us relax. We all react differently to the sound of a baby crying.
If we have been brought up in a noisy household we may have learnt to cope with noise in our day to day lives but someone who was brought up in quiet surroundings may have difficulty when they move to a noisy city.

We can get stressed at the thought of exams or changes in relationships and life styles. These can cause us to be physically ill - headaches, back pain, stomach upsets etc. We 'somatise' (hold in the body) our emotions and eventually these can lead to long term illness. Learning new breathing patterns can help reduce anxiety and relieve physical symptoms.

Depression can be a build up of worries or the reaction to a loss. Life gets on top of us and there is a feeling of being stuck, unable to move forward in life. Using breath and sound can help shift negative mood. It can help you bring balance and harmony to your life both mentally and physically. Sound with meditation helps to create positive energy to help you out of your enertia.

Mindfulness - This is a method of connecting with emotional or physical pain, focusing on it and breathing into it in order to bring release. It can be used in connection with CBT to bring deeper understanding and resolution to painful feelings and situations. Mindfulness can help relieve chronic pain.
