About me

Hi, my name is Barbara. Thank you for taking the time to check me out.

I know that life can be really difficult - for all sorts of reasons.  And I think all of us struggle sometimes. Maybe you are feeling like you could do with a bit of extra support? Perhaps you have suffered a loss? Perhaps it feels as though your life is spiralling out of control? Maybe you are just feeling low and don't really know why.

I am an experienced, Person-Centred, BACP accredited counsellor and I am currently providing telephone and online counselling. I offer you a safe, confidential space where you can talk about whatever is going on for you -  whether it is something from your past, something that is happening now, or worries about the future.   I am here to really listen to you - with empathy and a gentle curiosity.

How to get started

I know that choosing the right counsellor can feel daunting and it is impossible to know, just from reading my profile, whether or not I will be a good 'fit' for you.  So please drop me an email or give me a call and we can arrange a free consultation (either online or on the phone) to discuss your needs. I will be pleased to hear from you.   After that, you are under no obligation whatsoever, but if you do want to proceed with counselling, we can agree a time and day that suits us both and take it from there. I understand how important it is to feel comfortable and safe with whoever you choose.

Training, qualifications & experience

Diploma in Person Centred Counselling (Queens University)

Advanced Dip in Person Centred Therapy (Queens University)

Certificate in the Therapeutic use of Mindfulness

A variety of short courses (over ten years) regarding helping people who are coping with grief, loss and uncertainty.  I regularly attend training to update my skills and enhance my understanding.

Accredited member of BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapist) since 2016.

Over the last 10 years the majority of my work has been with people affected by cancer, so I am very familiar with the issues around cancer/illness, both for patients and for their families.   Usually, this involves fear of the future, some form of loss/losses and, sometimes. bereavement.   Consequently, I have years of experience supporting people coping with anxiety and grief in all its forms.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
