I am a registered member of the BACP with over 10 years experience in private practice, a GP surgery, a women's centre and a community counselling service. I offer a reduced cost initial session to give us an opportunity to meet and see if I can help you.
You may be looking for counselling for a number of reasons: you might have experienced a life-changing event, such as a bereavement, the loss of a job or the ending of a relationship; you might be in a situation where you have to make a big decision and need to talk over the alternatives, or you might simply feel that life is not as satisfying as it could be, and want to explore ways of making changes.
At our initial meeting we shall discuss your reasons for wanting counselling, how I can help, and how many sessions you think you will need (although this is not rigid; you may decide you need more, or fewer sessions than you originally thought, and this is fine). Sessions are 50 minutes in length and usually at the same time every week.
Counselling is not about the counsellor giving advice or telling the client what to do. My approach is person-centred; I believe that you know best how to live your life and what you need, and my role is to listen with empathy, explore your feelings in the here and now, ask questions where appropriate and let you find your own way to a resolution.
I have worked with clients suffering from depression, anxiety, past and present abuse, employment issues and bereavement.
I work in accordance with the BACP ethical framework.
