About me

Screen%20Shot%202015-09-28%20at%2014.44.Accredited Therapeutic Counsellor

I specialise in working with children and young people. I am a BACP Accredited and Registered Counsellor (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).

My Approach

I work using an integrated model incorporating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Integrative and Psychodynamic concepts within my work. I also value the influences of the humanistic and person-centred approaches.  CBT aims to engender change and challenge thought processes.  Psychodynamic counselling aims to develop insight into the possible nature of life long issues, by exploring its childhood origins.

My approach focuses on the issues you may bring and also on opportunities  you may be unaware of . This process may help you to tap into your unused potential.  Various techniques like relaxation and stress management help with coping strategies.

As a counsellor working with children and adults I take an integrative approach and aim to address the mental, physical, emotional, interpersonal and spiritual aspects. My aim is to:

  • encourage openness and honesty within a safe and contained environment;
  • increase self-awareness;
  • address clients holistically;
  • encourage clients in effective cognitive change;
  • increase and develop self-esteem;
  • encourage clients in sustained change.

Training, qualifications & experience

In addition to being registered and accredited with the BACP, I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling; a Diploma in Addiction Counselling and Certificates in Play Therapy.  I work with both adults and children.

I have worked in a school for the past 3 years working with children and young adults on a one to one basis who present with a variety of issues including anxiety, anger, abuse, low self-esteem, self-sabotage etc. Many present with family challenges and/or difficulties with social interaction within the school environment, as well as other every day issues facing students and young people. Many of the children who are referred to me are diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorders so I am working with this as well as the presented issues. I have worked with many children whose ability to learn is hindered due to their psychological and/or emotional problems.

I am committed to providing a safe, therapeutic environment for all my clients.

My expertise includes:

  • Abuse
  • Addictions
  • Anger management
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders
  • General counselling
  • Grief and loss
  • Self esteem
  • Self harm
  • Work related issues.
