Barbara Hann, Reg BACP, Dip. Psych. Couns.Cert Cybertheraby
You may have a particular issue that you want to explore, or something you want to change, but don't know how. I specialise in working with women, particularly issues such as life changes, loss, bereavement, relationships, domestic abuse, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, ageing, your relationship with food and your body, and work with women of all ages from 14 to 90 +.
Codependency describes a way of being in relationships that causes great distress, as you find yourself putting your own happiness second to your compulsion to help, fix or control another. I can work with you to help you see the unhealthy patterns you have developed, and find ways to become free of them.
You may find that your problems are rooted in your past, and that you may be acting in ways that are not helpful to you, as a result of this. Alternatively, you may be finding it hard to adjust to some life event. It may be that you have simply developed habits, particularly in how you react to other people, that don't work for you any more, and you want to behave differently. We can work together to explore this, and help you to develop the tools to make positive changes to your life.

Training, qualifications & experience
I worked for some time in Art and Design education, before deciding on changing careers, and following my desire to help people improve their lives on a one-to-one basis.
My specialism is working with women who find themselves at a difficult point in their lives, particularly those who feel trapped in their relationships, and those who are struggling with issues of co-dependency, counter-dependency, and low self esteem. I also work with those who are experiencing feelings of loss, through bereavement or life changes, anxiety and depression.
As a practitioner of mindfulness meditation for over 10 years, this forms an important part of my work. It allows me to help clients take a different perspective, and step away from some of the stories they carry, that are holding them back.
I studied a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, a three year level 5 course run by Chichester Counselling Services, and accredited by the BACP. I learnt to work psychodynamically, helping people to understand how their past experiences can affect their lives. Since then, I have qualified to work in a variety of ways, to adapt to the needs of the person. I can work in a more problem-solving way with you, or using creative processes, such as Art, or explore mindfulness techniques. I also have coaching qualifications. I qualified as an online therapist, studying a course that allowed me to expand my work to reach people who may find face-to-face counselling difficult in some way.
My qualifications are:
MA- Art and Design Education;
Diploma in Education Coaching
Certificate in Personal Performance Coaching
Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
Certificate in Time-Focussed Counselling
Certificate in Client Assessment
Certificate in Online Counselling(Cybertherapy)
I am registered with the BACP and am working towards accreditation.
I am based in West Sussex (Chichester) and Finistere (Carhaix-Plouguer)

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
Codependency and counter-dependency are terms to describe how you may behave in relationships, that are frustrating and harmful to you.
You may find yourself always trying to help, or even fix other people, taking on their problems as if they are your own. You can't understand why they don't ever seem to change, and you feel resentful and isolated.
Alternatively, you may find yourself acting as if you are strong and secure, when inside you feel weak and frightened. You push people away who try to get close to you, but you really long for intimacy.
Therapy can help you see the patterns in your behaviour, understand the cause and make changes to allow improvements in how you connect with others.

We can discuss what you hope to gain from counselling, and whether time-focussed or open-ended work would meet your needs better. By the end of the consultation you should be able to decide if you would like to continue with me for counselling. We can then make appointments that will suit us both, using whichever form of communication works best for you.
