About me

Hello, thank you for viewing my page.

My name is Avril. I am a fully qualified (MSc Dip C) and very experienced counsellor having been working on this field for over 25 years.

I also provide counselling supervision to both qualified and counsellors in training.

I do recognise how daunting making that first contact with a therapist can be and how important it is that you find the right person to work with so, should you choose to contact me, I would be happy to answer questions you might have about me and the service I offer. If you are happy to proceed, we can then arrange to make an appointment as soon as possible.

Some people find that one appointment is all that they need but others benefit from more. It is usual to make regular weekly or even fortnightly appointments but we can discuss at our initial appointment what might suit you best. I will be led by what you need.

I work from home in a private, peaceful and comfortable space & this will be where I am while I talk with you during this enforced distancing. It is not overheard and I can focus on our interaction.

Please talk to me about the cost if you are worried that you may not be able to afford the full amount, some reduced price sessions may be available in exceptional circumstances.

Please note: I have daytime and evening appointments available currently.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • MSc Counselling Psychology
  • Diploma in Integrative Counselling
  • Certificate in Counselling Supervision
  • Certificate in Bereavement Counselling

I have over 25 years experience of working privately with clients who present with a wide range of experience successfully. Common themes have included anxiety, health anxiety, relational difficulties, alcohol misuse, depression and work related problems.

Alongside my private practice, I have until recently worked full time for over 15 years with adult male offenders who have added to my understanding of human experience particularly issues related to childhood sexual abuse/physical abuse/neglect, substance/alcohol misuse, addictions, loss/grief.

I view therapy as a collaboration, in which we work together to enhance your quality of life and explore your thoughts, feelings, troubles, goals, in a safe and trusting space. Whether you are looking to make life changes or overcome current stresses, I aim to always be understanding, warm and respectful.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
