About us

Welcome to Ask Counselling, providers of non-judgemental, professional and affordable counselling/ psychotherapy in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. We have bases in Chesterfield and other localities across both counties. We understand that modern living and circumstance may make accessing counselling difficult. We therefore, are happy to accommodate your needs and preferences wherever possible including, home visits and weekends. In every day terms we are, “big enough to cope and small enough to still care”, and intend to keep it that way. We chose the name Ask because we believe that it is your ask of us that is the most important

Ask Counselling comprises of a small team of three (Andria, Nicki and Dave) qualified counsellors/psychotherapists of varied and differing specialisms who have united in order to provide a comprehensive service, in which we are dedicated to helping you to attain the quality of satisfying life experiencing and well-being that you would choose to have.

We all three deeply share the belief that counselling and psychotherapy should be centred with the view point and preference of the client, rather than the service defining and becoming directive to the client/s.

We come from varied backgrounds both in life and within the therapeutic field including business, care and support including mental health and disabilities. We have all faced our own life challenges and we’re people too.

In addition to our private practice we have all practiced counselling/psychotherapy in other agencies including locally funded organisations and charities. Our experience includes: addiction, abuse, mental health issues of variant nature, generic G.P. referral, relationship and family issues. We are also experienced in working with individuals who are involved in other professionals. If you would like more information on those with who we work, you may choose to visit our web page. Whether working with a singular or multiple referral, we believe that the service provided should be tailored to individual need and be meaningful to those who use it.

Our counselling/psychotherapy is at a depth and a level that is appropriate to your need. Our service is not fixed term and we work in a holistic manner, with the complete person, to help you attain positive and lasting change.

Perhaps you may have concerns about discussing your thoughts and feelings because at some point someone did not listen or respond to you in a way that was helpful. If this experience is familiar to you the quote below may have some meaning.

“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.”

Consistent and multiple research has shown that the most important factor in reaching positive outcome in counselling/psychotherapy is the therapeutic relationship. At the core of our approach is Person Centred Therapy. A relationship of non-judgement, empathy (deep understanding, shared meaning) and honesty combined with human warmth, are all embedded into to this approach.

Equality and diversity are at the core of our counselling approach and service. We share the belief that respect for the individual human being that you are is paramount within our work. We offer a warm and natural as well as a professional welcome. Your enquiry will be confidential from the first point of contact. Maintaining confidentiality is a matter of contracted agreement as well as being a matter of constant regard for the trust that is imbedded into our practice.
