Counselling to me is the provision of a safe and confidential space for you to express and explore your difficulties. I will provide an accepting environment and remain alongside you while you start and continue your counselling journey.
I will not provide you with advice or instructions, I believe that you have the resources within you to make the changes/choices best for you... even if you don't know it! It is my job to work professionally, empathically, honestly and non-judgmentally with you, to help you discover and make sense of your emotions.
My Humanistic approach means that I incorporate models of therapy in an integrative way, based on what each individual client might respond well to. All of my work will be centred around you and we will work collaboratively to ensure this.
"What I am is good enough, if only I would be it openly." (Carl Rogers). Often we struggle to accept ourselves in many ways and contexts. I believe you are enough and deserve the time and space to explore aspects of yourself within any context that is causing you distress, and to then make helpful choices if necessary.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a BACP registered and qualified counsellor. My experience includes working with adults and young people (16+).
I have experience of working in an education setting where I work with young students. I have also worked in the city centre with an organisation that included a large amount of work with university students.
This experience has given me the opportunity to work as part of an organisation with a contract from the Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, to provide counselling to young victims of crime.
This work is combined with my private practice where I work with both adults and young people. I also work within higher educational settings as a Specialist Mental Health Mentor. This work often includes a more solution focussed way of working.
Before qualifying as a counsellor I worked within the NHS, assisting in the provision of physiotherapy to stroke patients. I also studied to be a Pregnancy Choice Practitioner to work with women facing an unplanned pregnancy.
