Aquilis Counselling Services
Aquilis is a team of qualified counsellors originally formed to provide counselling to staff at Portsmouth Hospitals Trust. It has gradually expanded over the last 15+ years to provide counselling for the wider community.
Because we have a team, currently 13 of us, we can offer a range of different approaches and have experience in a wide range of issues. At an initial meeting we gather background information and find out what you are looking for and we can then assess together what style of counselling may be suitable for you and when you are available.
We generally have an integrative style which means we weave together a number of counselling theories to proide a flexible approach. Between us we have training in humanistic, psychodynamic, solution focussed, CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy), TA (transactional analysis), and EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) and have registered Adoption counsellors. Those trained in hypnotherapy use this integrated with their counselling but not in isolation for weight loss or smoking cessation.
Several of the team have also worked in GP Surgeries and Schools.
We offer counselling supervision.
We also offer counselling for employees of local businesses.
We are based on the site of QA Hospital in the Oasis building which is the Wellness Centre and have counsellors on site 5 days a week and can sometimes offer a Saturday appointment.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
