About me
I am a registered and accredited psychotherapist with over 10 years' experience of working in the NHS.
My work in the NHS involves working with acutely unwell people. In addition, I have extensive experience of working with people who have been referred for counselling by GPs.
Prior to training as a psychotherapist, I was a qualified teacher and part of my NHS work continues to be in an Acute Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit. Drawing on my extensive experience of working in the NHS and my passion and devotion to teaching, I feel particularly well-placed to work with the issues and pressures that confront young adults today. I welcome enquiries from young adults struggling with life pressures and the stress of GCSEs, A levels and University.
I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (Registration No. 22112), the BACP (Membership No. 00920423) Registration No 375685 MBACP, the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists (Membership No. 33016) and the NCS (Membership No. 18-06738).
My approach is psychodynamic: this entails longer term work that seeks to get to the root of the problem rather than focus on surface symptoms.
My practice is located in North London.
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified as a psychodynamic psychotherapist from The Tavistock Centre, London (which is part of The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust). En route to my full qualification, I acquired a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the University of Essex, and a Certificate of Higher Education in Counselling from Birkbeck College, University of London. I have had further post-qualification training for working with young adults at the Society of Analytic Psychology.
Prior to training as a psychotherapist, I was a teacher and I have a PGCE from the Institute of Education, University College London and Qualified Teacher Status.
In addition to my paid work in the NHS, I have done voluntary work for several Mental Health Charities including Mind, Nafsiyat (The Intercultual Psychotherapy Centre) and Waterloo Community Counselling.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.
BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information
I charge £ 120/- for an initial consultation (which may extend for 2 or more 90 minute sessions). Following this, I may refer you to a colleague who would be more appropriate for your needs or we may decide to work together in which case my charges are £ 60/- (sixty pounds) for a 50 minute session.
When I work
Monday 10am - 12noon, Tuesday 6 - 8pm, Wednesday 6 - 8pm, Friday 6 - 8pm, Saturday 9 - 5pm.
