About me

I am an experienced Counsellor, offering affordable counselling to those who feel burduned by emotional problems in their lives. I help people through a broad range of emotional issues and am available to see you 7am - 9pm Monday - Friday.

Post Coronavirus lockdown I have returned to seeing clients face to face but am continuing to off my counselling services by video link or telephone if required.

Most people experience emotional difficulties at some time in their lives. Often these can be resolved without the need to seek help.

For some these difficulties may persist, with current issues such as anxiety, depression, feelings of sadness or relationship difficulties giving rise to feelings relating to the past, some people may have a vague awareness of what is causing or contributing to their feelings but lack the understanding to enable them to feel better.

It is in situations such as these that Counselling may be able to help.  Counselling provides a regular time and space where you can explore your feelings, memories and wishes to help you understand the  processes that affect your everyday thoughts and behaviours, offering a real opportunity for relief from your difficulties.

Starting counselling is an important step in your life and as an experienced Counsellor I am here to help you. Please visit my website for more information about how I can help you   http://anthonybirbeckcounselling.co.uk/

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

If you think you might be helped by Counselling, a consultation can be arranged in which you can discuss your concerns in detail and gain some understanding of the Counselling process.

The consultation can be useful in helping you think about your difficulties  more clearly or in a different way.

The consultation can also help you consider whether short term (12 weeks) or longer term duration might be helpful.

If Counselling does not seem appropriate other ways of proceeding may emerge during our meeting.

I have a private practice attached to my home address.
