About me

I have been helping people to make sense of their current feelings and behaviours by connecting up all aspects of their life and identifying relationship patterns and events in the past and present. This in turn promotes a deeper self-understanding which enables personal growth in order to live a more engaged life.

In my MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy I undertook research into the latest neurological evidence about the effects of trauma and how this is processed by the brain and body, together with evidence based therapies which help people to process traumatic incidents from the past.  Evidence suggests that traumatic events may have a different effect to any other and can become inaccessible to memory.  This can create a range of problems such as physical pains, anxieties or addictive behaviours.  I have also attended training courses on safe trauma therapy practice one of which was provided by experts who counselled the survivors of the 7/7 2005 London Underground attacks.

I have a wide range of organizational experience as a teacher and psychotherapist, teaching psychology and sociology in schools; working as a counsellor for West Yorkshire Probation Service, Bradford Counselling Services and with refugees at 'Solace', Leeds.
