About me
Hello there
I'm Annie
Thank you for reading my profile.
Something has brought you here, and I would love to help.....so a little about me.
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist (CPCAB- Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body). British Association Counsellors & Psychotherapist (BACP) registered member.
I am also a Safe lives UK qualified Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA).
I deliver counselling sessions to adolescents at a local secondary school.
I offer face to face work in Skipton town centre and online work via Microsoft Teams.
I don't believe that therapy is a one size fits all situation. I am trained in integrative models of therapy, so I prefer to use my skills and training to find the perfect fit for your needs.
I have lots of experience working with the LGBTQ community, & Transgendered and transitioning people. I have also worked with many people identifying as neurodiverse.
Prior to my therapist training, I have had a career with West Yorkshire Police, providing safeguarding roles, working within the criminal justice system, at all stages. Supporting vulnerable adults and victims of crime and delivering training to police officers and partner agencies with regard to vulnerable adults.
I also have over 20 years experience working with victims of domestic abuse. I have worked alongside perpetrator behavioural change programmes and have a thorough and in depth knowledge of the dynamics of controlling and abusive behavior patterns, their effects and consequences.
I am also a trauma specialist and I have 5 years experience of working with survivors of sexual abuse. Including incest and Child Sexual Exploitation, at a Rape Crisis charity.
I can help with anxiety, panic attacks, depression , insomnia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and any other debilitating condition that is getting in the way of you living your best life.
I have experience of working with clients with compulsive behaviours and addictions and their families and carers.
Carer stress is largely unrecognised, in all its forms. If you have found yourself in this position, of any kind, often without a choice, then I can help you to navigate your situation to the best possible scenario. I have lived experience of life as a carer.
I have worked in multi-agency settings and sat on various child protection and safeguarding boards and committees.
I am trained to level 1 in Internal Family Systems, (IFS), a parts- based model of psychotherapy developed by Richard Schwartz in the US, that is currently gaining popularity in the UK and worldwide. It is recognised as an effective method of understanding and working with the body's internal mechanisms which can sometimes hold us back in life and cause us difficulty.
As a practitioner of IFS, I have witnessed change, flexibility and much improved quality of life, in my clients. It is a valuable tool to anyone who feels stuck and unable to move forward. If this is something that appeals to you, I can work with you to guide you as you get to know your own system and bring about meaningful and lasting change.
However we work together, I can listen to you, in confidence and together we can work out how to improve your situation regarding anything that you feel is bothering you, come and have a chat.
Family and friends often mean well, but for some things, are not the right people to turn to are they?
Or maybe you are experiencing difficult relationships with family members?
I have ‘extensive’ experience of family trauma and loss and the impact it can have on all parties. Leading to hurt & anger. Do you feel you have no one to turn to who understands?
If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious or concerned about anything, I can help you make sense of what is going on. Help you find a way through things, to a place of peace, even when things which feel beyond your control.
I am sensitive, caring and empathic. Lets work out what is the best way forward for you, what ever it is that you are experiencing, don't be on your own!
Come and explore what professional help may be able to do for you.
please email me and we can arrange a mutually convenient time for a first meeting, to see if you think you would like us to work together.
I don't think you will regret making the decision to have some help. After all, everyone needs some from time to time.
Warm regards
Annie

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
