About me

Hello and welcome,

I’m a holistic therapist who relates to my clients as multi-faceted human beings, not merely someone with an “issue”. I use all of my training in person centred counselling, life coaching and hypnotherapy to help you reach your full potential in whatever way that I can.

So why Symbiotic Therapy? Life is a relationship and we are the conduit. We have a relationship with everything and everyone in our life and the relationship we have with the most toxic issue will affect all other relationships. I will help you recognise what your most pressing relationship issue is and help you understand that by cleaning up that one in particular, how all of your other relationships will improve as a result. This is YOUR life and if you want anything in YOUR life to change then YOU have to change.  For instance if you have a bad relationship with money - always being anxious when the post arrives, hating receiving telephone calls from unrecognised numbers, living in lack, worrying about your bank balance, working yourself into the ground to improve your finances etc, as that is the greatest emotional relationship that you have, then you will bleed those same destructive emotions onto other relationships in your life, without even realising it. You will view yourself, everyone and everything in your life based on those perceptions of fear, scarcity, dis-trust, unworthiness etc.

This isn't a complicated process, it's really simple as most of the things that help us are. All it takes is for us to "spend" some time looking at the values and limiting beliefs that you have cultivated and change them for the better. Then notice how your relationship with life changes.

Best wishes,

Anne

Person-Centred Counselling

I'm someone who feels passionately about the benefits of counselling. I understand that everyone needs someone to talk to at times. Those times when we don't want to burden family or friends with our problems when talking to them just doesn't feel appropriate, when it feels like you have no one at all to turn to, or simply don't know where or how to start. That's where I come in! I'm a neutral person who will listen to you and not talk at you, who will be empathic, not sympathetic, who will try to understand not judge and who will endeavour to help you to help yourself.

I work with children, young people, adults and couples. I've worked with clients in a women's refuge and everything that entails - emotional, physical and mental abuse, together with the issues that generally go along with those things used as coping mechanisms; namely alcohol and drug addiction.

Other issues I encountered whilst working at a counselling centre in Preston were marital/sexual problems, infertility, low self-esteem, work issues, family relationships, depression / suicidal thoughts, abortion, sadly the list is endless.

Before going into practice for myself I spent time volunteering at a primary school in a deprived area of Burnley working with 8 year olds for Place2Be. Place2Be places counsellors into primary and comprehensive schools in deprived areas. Children who use Place2Be's services are more likely to be from disadvantaged backgrounds, and to have special educational needs and pre-existing emotional and behavioural difficulties. That's where I was trained in Play Therapy.

Latterly, I've gained experience working for Lancashire Care Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust at one of their secure mental health units covering 2 acquired brain injury wards.

Parts Therapy

Imagine your"self" as being the core of you. Your"self" is your inner being, your true essence. That core part of you lives in the living room of your home, whilst down in the basement are all other aspects of your life experiences - anger, resentment, fear, hopelessness, joy, love, hate etc, etc. One day while you're in the living room there's a knock on the front door and when you answer it something happens to invite a part of you up from the basement. In other words someone or something has "pushed your buttons" and you are reacting to it. So your"self" and this other aspect of you are now in a dialogue in the living room. When there's only two of you, then the chances are that your"self" will eventually settle down the other part that is now playing out a scenario. What happens, however, if more than the one part decides to put in an appearance in the living room and your"self" is overwhelmed? Parts Therapy involves actually being able to visualise the other aspect that your"self" is dealing with. When we do this then we are better able to stay in control of a situation. We learn to be aware of all aspects of our"selves", so that they don't creep up on us out of no where.

Life Coaching

Whilst Counselling is primarily about looking back at issues in your life, Life Coaching focuses on how to move forward. It could be that something happened in your past that is holding you back or you're feeling unfulfilled in some aspect of your life, but don't know how to make the necessary changes. As a qualified Life Coach and Professional Counsellor I can combine my skills to help you overcome whatever may be hindering your progress. The two complement each other perfectly.

Hypnotherapy

Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep. It does involve the induction of a trance-like condition, but when in it, the patient is actually in an enhanced state of awareness, concentrating entirely on the hypnotist's voice. In this state, the conscious mind is suppressed and the subconscious mind is revealed.

Phobias of all kinds lend themselves well to hypnotherapy, and anyone suffering from panic attacks or obsessional compulsive behaviour, and stress-related problems like insomnia, may benefit.

All aspects of my work are governed by ethical guidelines and confidentiality.

I work either face-to-face or via Facetime whichever you prefer. So now you have no excuses for what's stopping you from living your best life!

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
