Anne Pickard Reg. MBACP BA (Hons)
My aim is to help you gain a greater understanding of yourself and your difficulties so that you can manage your life and relationships better and make changes. I offer a free 30 minute initial session where you can begin to talk about what concerns you in a safe and confidential place. I am a university qualified counsellor, a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and I am on the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I will use my knowledge and experience as a counsellor to support you with whatever brought you to counselling and we will work together to find a way forward.
I will offer you empathy and understanding, but also explanations based on my knowledge of different therapeutic theories, so that you can gain a better understanding of yourself and your feelings. I will not be shocked by secrets or worries you may struggle with. Counselling success, I find, is closely linked to the quality of the relationship established between myself and my client and building a good rapport with the people I work with is central to my work.
My experience includes both short and long term counselling. I have worked at three different agencies offering counselling in Bristol as well as my private practice. My counselling experience includes working with people who have suffered from bereavement, abuse, trauma, sexual abuse, depression, struggles with addiction, anger management and relationship difficulties. Other people come to see me because of something less specific, perhaps a persistent feeling of anxiety or stress, or being caught on a treadmill of repeating patterns of behaviour.
I have experience of working with counselling students.
The room I work from is peaceful, being situated on the edge of Purdown in North Bristol. It is easily accessible by car or bus from the centre of Bristol but also just off the M32 for those coming from further afield. There is free parking in the street.
Unfortunately, at the moment, my practice room is up one flight of stairs and so not wheelchair accessible. I do my best to accommodate people with disabilities and am very happy to talk through how I can make my practice accessible to you.
I can offer some low cost counselling places.

My normal fee is £40 for a 50 minute session. I have some low cost counselling places for people who are unemployed or on a low income including student concessions if needed. In our first meeting we will have an opportunity to talk about this.
If you are unable to attend your normal session then I ask for some advance notice. We can then try and re-arrange the session within a week of the cancelled session. If this is not possible then I charge for the missed session.
I try to be as flexible as possible about session times, including offering some evening sessions.
