About me
Compass Point Counselling and Psychotherapy
I am a counsellor and psychodynamic therapist with many years experience of working with adults of all ages and with couples. I am also a qualified and experienced psychodynamic supervisor for counsellors and other professionals.
I work in a light, pleasant, private consulting room in Ross on Wye. I provide a calm, welcoming, confidential space where we can discuss and explore the issues that have brought you to counselling.
Individual Counselling
During our first meeting we will decide on the best way for us to work together, and whether you would like to proceed with counselling sessions. If you decide you would like to work with me, we will meet weekly at a regular agreed time.
Couples Counselling
The couples assessment takes place over four sessions, which gives us a good chance to understand what is happening in your relationship and start to explore what may be helpful for change. Please see my website for more information.

Training, qualifications & experience
Working with Individuals and Couples
I started working in Mental Health in the NHS in 1995, and bring a depth of knowledge and experience to my counselling work. I trained in psychodynamic counselling with individual adults at Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS), the largest counselling provider in Gloucestershire, and also completed their Associate course for qualified counsellors and therapists. The training was accredited by the Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF) and the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). Post-qualifying I undertook further training in short-term solution-focused therapy, and in Couples Therapy at GCS provided by psychotherapists from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and Severnside Institute for Psychotherapy.
As a counsellor and therapist with Compass Point Counselling and Psychotherapy I currently provide both open-ended and time-limited counselling for individual adults and couples. I have had the privilege of working with many different individuals and couples who have brought a vast range of issues to be explored in counselling. I participate regularly in CPD, and have special interests in working with neurodiverse clients, couples work, and infertility.
Supervision
I provide psychodynamic supervision for small groups and individual qualified counsellors and other professionals - please contact me for more details if you are interested in this.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.
BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Individual assessment / counselling / therapy session - £60 (a limited number of concessions are available for those on low income - this can be discussed at the assessment session.)
Couple assessment / counselling / therapy session - £100 (some concessions available as above) Please note that the couples assessment period is four sessions and is paid in advance - please see the website for further details.

Ross-on-Wye is well situated on the M50 for access from both South Wales and the Midlands, and is situated on the edge of the beautiful Forest of Dean. My consulting room is within a commutable distance from Newent, Tewkesbury, Monmouth, Ledbury, Hereford, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Worcester, Chepstow, Newport, Cardiff, Birmingham and Bristol.
My consulting room is easy to find, but private, with ample parking nearby, both free on-street (look for the 2-hour spaces) and public car parks. It is minutes from the town centre, which has many independent shops, cafes and coffee shops.
