Hello and welcome to some information that I hope will help you decide what steps you want to take next. There will be many reasons why you are reading this section; you may be looking for a counsellor to help you through a difficult period in your life, or you may be a trainee counsellor needing personal therapy hours, or you may just be browsing the directory. Whatever your reason for reading this section, my hope is that it helps you decide whether or not to contact me.
I value the uniqueness, vulnerability and strength of every human being and believe that you have the right, and the capacity to choose your own direction in life and the values that you wish to live by. However, making changes and choosing our way in life is not always clear nor straightforward so my guiding principle is to offer you a counselling relationship where together, so that you are not alone, you can explore what you are experiencing in your life at this time, make sense of what is happening to you, and discover some of the choices that may be available to you.
As a qualified counsellor, I will use my training, experience and skills, to create a space that feels professionally safe and confidential so that you can explore your thoughts and feelings in your own way and at your own pace. Sometimes it can be difficult to talk about particular thoughts and feelings, so during our time working together, I can share other creative ways of expressing thoughts and feelings, using methods from other counselling approaches.
It is important to me that you feel equal in this relationship and so for that reason, if you choose to contact me, we would start by exploring what has prompted you to think about having counselling and what you hope to gain from your therapy. To help establish a strong, trusting relationship between us, I will be open and honest, and will tell you about the way I work so that you are informed, and we can agree the basis on which we will work together. Our sessions could range from one to many, depending on your needs, and we will regularly review our working together to ensure that you are getting what you need from the therapy.
