About me

I am a qualified counsellor with over twenty five years experience in helping individuals and couples, who are looking to resolve relationship difficulties. As a Relate Trained Counsellor I have supported many clients to find ways of leading more fulfilling lives and more fulfilling relationships. There may be times when a couple decide they would be happier to separate, and in these instances I will work with them towards enabling them to separate with kindness and a lack of recrimination.

What to expect:

I offer both short and long term counselling, and a flexible approach to working with my clients. I'm based in Hereford and work from a dedicated space in my home, with a private entrance.

We always begin with an initial face to face assessment, at the end of which we will discuss the best way forward together.

Each session lasts 60 minutes. We will regularly review your needs to ensure you are getting what you need from the sessions.

My experience:

I have experience working with a wide variety of areas including:

  • relationships
  • stress and anxiety
  • depression
  • lack of confidence
  • bereavement
  • infant loss including miscarriage
  • family issues
  • workplace problems
  • and a variety of other issues

About me:

Much of my work is with couples, and I also work with individuals on a multitude of issues. I trained as an Integrative Counsellor which means I am able to adapt my therapeutic approach to suit my clients' particular needs.

Some clients find it easier to work in a more creative way rather than always using words.

I believe that my experience is my greatest strength, as I have enjoyed working with both individuals and couples over 20 years and seeing them become happier and/or grow in their relationships. I have worked with clients from many different backgrounds, including those from a military background.

I will always tailor our sessions to suit your needs. I have lived and worked in different cultural settings and environments which has given me an an especial insight into understanding what's important to my clients, and what makes them feel comfortable.

The space where we meet is private and confidential, and a place where you can relax and feel safe in a warm supportive setting.

If you feel that you would like further information about the support I can offer, please do not hesitate to contact me on the numbers above.

Training, qualifications & experience

I originally trained to teach Art and hold a Bachelor of Education in Art. I have taught and worked in a special school for children with behavioural problems.

I completed a three year 'Diploma in Integrative Counselling' at Hereford Technical College. Following this I joined Relate and completed the 'Relate Certificate in Marital and Couple Counselling'.

I worked with Relate as a counsellor, and at one time as a manager, for approximately thirteen years. I left Relate to focus on my private practice. Also, during this time I completed a certificated course in 'Drama Therapy' with Worcester College. This was not only great fun but gave me an insight into a more creative way of working, which can be helpful to my clients.

I am on the 'BACP Accredited Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists'.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
