About me

Hello, I am Anna. I am a BACP-accredited counsellor and EMDR therapist. I have found counselling helpful in my own life at various difficult times, including after a miscarriage, so I care very much about helping others. I welcome any adult who wishes to receive counselling support in their life, and I also work with couples who have lost a baby.

My clients have told me that they feel safe and find me easy to talk to.

My specialities are bereavement, grief, and working with any maternity-related difficulties or distress you may be feeling. I am experienced in working with anxiety in pregnancy, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, post-natal concerns, fertility issues, and terminal illness. I also work with couples who have lost a baby.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BSc Hons degree in Physiology and Nutrition (1995), diploma in Midwifery (qualified 2000) and diploma in Integrative Counselling (qualified 2020). I have been an accredited member of the BACP since 2023. I am also an EMDR therapist and experienced in working with trauma.

My career has been mostly as an NHS midwife (qualified 2000), which included mentoring students. More recently, I have worked as a counsellor in perinatal mental health/maternity services with people who have experienced baby loss and birth trauma. I also spent a year working in a local hospice-at-home team, which enriched me with more insight and understanding of end-of-life care.

I now work with Petals charity, alongside my private practice in counselling. I am a wife and parent, and enjoy walking my dog, swimming, singing and meditation.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
