About me

Welcome to Ebb & Flow Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a BACP accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I offer a welcoming, safe, confidential setting in which to gain support for a range of problems, including coping with loss, separation, fear, stress, anxiety and work related issues. Do see my website for further details.

Counselling or therapy can support you to make choices, offer you time to grow, gain new perspectives and make changes. It can offer a rich and transformative experience in which to develop self awareness, enable time for reflection and re-imagine a future in creative ways you have not thought of before.

I offer short term and long term therapy influenced by Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural approaches, Mindfulness and Buddhist Psychology. Most importantly, I work in a way which supports each person's experience. I have worked in private practice and a variety of settings over the past 20 years.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I am registered and approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (cert no 037697).

I work from a Humanistic perspective, working collaboratively in a way that respects and suits each individual’s unique experience. I trained in Person Centred Counselling at Roehampton University (Diploma in Counselling) and went on to train in Psychotherapy (Diploma in Psychotherapy) at The Amida and Tariki Trust, where my practice was influenced by Buddhist Psychology including Mindfulness. I have also trained in Solution Focused Approaches and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Post Grad Cert CBT). I am also a professional coach, with an interest in work based issues and creativity.

I have a background in Social Work (Diploma in Social Work /CQSW), have been involved in teaching adults and have a degree and Masters in Fine Art.

I have worked as a counsellor and therapist in a family centre, a sexual health charity and a women’s centre. In my current private practice I work with issues such as bereavement/loss, trauma, change, relationship problems, identity, stress, meaning, depression and anger. In addition, I offer face to face and telephone counselling to employees through an employee assistance programme, where I have gathered many years of experience in focusing on issues related to the workplace. I have worked for the past two years as a therapist working with people who are experiencing someone missing in their lives. My work as a CBT Therapist, includes a focus on depression, addiction, changing habits, procrastination, critical thinking and low mood. I include Mindfulness approaches where this might be helpful.

BACP Accredited (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy)
UKRCP Registered, Diploma in Counselling and Supervision, Diploma in Psychotherapy, Post Grad Cert in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Post Grad Dip in Couples Counselling, Cert in Coaching skills and theory, Cert in Counselling Skills

My work has evolved over time through ongoing training and my own life path, which gives me my unique perspective on life. I am committed to following the BACP Code of Ethical Practice, I attend regular professional development and monthly supervision.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
