Ann Pratten - On The Couch, Counselling and Psychotherapy
"On the Couch" is my private counselling practice situated by Poets Walk in Clevedon. My clients often comment about the benefits they experience from being in this beautiful and peaceful setting which helps them to relax and feel safe to talk.
Though I have a background in training and development I truly love working as a counsellor, making a difference to peoples well-being is by far the most rewarding work I have done.
I trained as a humanistic therapist but with experience I am able to work with a range of theories and models, each person has their own unique set of circumstances and needs and I can adapt the approach to suit you.
When we work together you can be certain that I will do my best to take care of you through your counselling journey, as the process may bring up many issues. Counselling can be enlightening, revealing, bring up positive, sad and difficult memories, however by exploring these things you can gain an understanding of why you are feeling the way you do.
I have experience of working with clients from age 11 to 80, no matter what your age or gender I'm aware that problems develop or re-occur at any time. Difficulties can happen to everyone, though your experience is unique to you, and coming to counselling is a great way of taking control of what is happening right now in your life.
If you decide to choose me as your counsellor I will offer you care, compassion, I may challenge or coach you, or use creative techniques. Through my experience of working with many individuals over the years I have confidence that from our work you will experience self discovery and find techniques to help you in the future.
I have received many notes of thanks from clients, one of the greatest pleasures for me is to hear from the initially cautious client a message saying 'I just didn't expect to achieve so much'. Therapy does not offer a miraculous cure but it does provide an opportunity to talk freely and to process your experience without judgement or the worry of burdening a friend or relative.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
