About me

I provide a safe confidential space to help build trust, for you to talk openly and honestly about issues that are troubling you. I support you in finding your own answers. This can be empowering. Life can be overwhelming and very challenging at times. Talking to someone outside your circle can help make sense of things, and help to see a way forward.

  • I qualified as a Counsellor in 2018. I do short term and long term work, whatever is suitable for you.
  • I have experience in a wide range of issues.

As the saying goes, "Can't see the wood for the trees" It can be beneficial to talk to a therapist, to eventually be able to see the "wood" by expressing, and  unravelling thoughts and emotions to clear the way ahead.

How Do We Start The Process

30 Minute Free Consultation.

I appreciate how the thought of counselling may seem scary initially. The process starts by arranging a date, and a time for a free 30 minute  consultation (informal chat) to identify the issues you would like to bring to counselling.

  • The initial consultation will help you to decide whether counselling is the right step forward for you.
  • There is no pressure whatsoever to continue onto counselling following the free consultation.
  • I work on a face-to-face basis, and also online. It depends on what you feel comfortable with.
  • I am here to put you at ease, in a confidential safe space. I am here to listen, not judge.
  • If you think we could work together, then we would arrange a time and date for the first counselling session.

Next Step. First session.

Sometimes people aren’t sure about what they’d like to get from therapy, and that is fine. Counselling helps you to unravel your thoughts and emotions to make sense of them and their impact on you. This enables you to slowly find your own answers, gain more awareness and control of your thoughts and emotions and how they have developed.

There may be a number of issues that you need to bring to counselling and not know where to start. This is an opportunity to prioritise those issues in some kind of order to relieve overwhelming emotions.

Although we discuss the issues in the initial consultation, the first session will start the process of the appropriate approach/approaches that will benefit you most.

  • If you are happy to continue then we would book another session preferably on the same day and time.
  • It is entirely up to you as to how often you would like to take counselling sessions.

How I Work

Although I qualified in a Person Centred Approach, (talking therapy) I also use various other approaches to suit the individual and their needs eg CBT can help rationalise and challenge thought patterns that you may find distressing.

Counselling is a process that you can potentially grow from. Coping strategies are discussed to find what feels right for you as an individual. This helps you to manage situations, thoughts, and emotions and achieve a result that is perhaps less distressing for you.

I specialise in:

  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Health issues
  • Low Confidence
  • Low Mood
  • Relationship issues
  • Retirement/loss of identity/purpose
  • Self-Esteem
  • Self-Worth issues
  • Trauma and much more.

I work in an empathic, compassionate manner. I am here to support clients, who sometimes feel stuck and are unable to see a way forward.

Counselling can help you to talk through difficult confusing thoughts and emotions, to make sense of them. This helps you become aware of how they have developed. This slowly gives you control, as opposed to emotions being  in control.

I also offer group therapy in:

>Anxiety

>Bereavement

(At least 5-6 members needed to begin group work)

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
