About me

Hello, my name is Anita and I am an experienced, qualified counsellor based in central Ilkley, providing both in-person and online therapy for individual clients and couples.

In truth all of us experience difficult times in our lives. Perhaps you are struggling with a specific problem such as anxiety or depression or experiencing relationship or family issues, or maybe you feel low and need help making sense of your situation.

Sometimes we don’t understand why we feel the way we do, why we think the way we do, and why we behave the way we do. The most important relationship we have is the relationship with ourselves but for many of us this can be the most difficult.

Whatever your reasons, counselling can help provide the opportunity to explore, make sense of, and work through difficult and painful processes which can help us live a happier more fulfilling life with ourselves and in our relationships with ourselves and others.

Whether you are experiencing bereavement, relationship problems. anxiety, self-esteem issues, or something you don’t understand, it can be hard to open up with family or friends without feeling that you are burdening them. Speaking to a counsellor, in confidence, can help in you express and understanding your feelings.

I am trained in the Relational Model of counselling which is grounded in the premise that many of our problems take root in troubled interpersonal relationships, both the past and present.

This approach has enabled me to help with a wide range of emotional difficulties such as trauma, bereavement, anxiety, relationship issues, emotional regulation and adjusting to major life transitions.

I am a fully qualified, experienced, counsellor and psychotherapist. I am an 'Accredited' member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  Accreditation awarded by a professional body means that the individual has achieved a high standard of knowledge, experience and development

I aim to provide a safe, non-judgmental, confidential environment from where you can talk about anything you want, however difficult. I will listen carefully and non-judgmentally, with respect, in complete confidence. Together we may explore what is troubling you, and begin to find a way for you to reach your own decisions and make your own choices.

I provide both short and long-term counselling, working over a few weeks or several months, depending on your individual needs and wishes.

Please feel free to make contact with me and I am am happy to answer any questions you may have.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified, experienced, counsellor and psychotherapist. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which means I provide a high level of professional competence and care.

I have extensive experience of working with many issues including loss and grief, bereavement, suicide, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, suicide, self harm and relationship issues. I also have over 25 years experience of working in the voluntary sector, including nine years experience as a volunteer at ChildLine and as a counsellor at Bradford Bereavement Support.

Additionally, I have considerable experience of the corporate world, prior to qualifying as a counsellor. This experience has enabled me to understand the pressures faced by individuals working in a highly demanding work environment and the impact this has on other relationships and our work and life balance.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
