Anita Demetriou MA in Relationship Therapy, MBACP
Are you having problems with your relationship? Having communication issues, constant arguments or parenting concerns?
Is your partner having an affair, addicted to porn, drugs or alcohol, or going through depression or an illness?
Gone through a difficult breakup?
Having difficulties with anxiety, depression or anger?
Counselling (Couple or Individual) can help you to talk things though in a safe and confidential space. It will enable you to talk about your issues, to bring things out in the open, things that maybe you haven’t been able to say before. It can create a safe space to explore your relationship more openly, talk about what you want or don’t want, talk about the future of your relationship.
The aim is to find a way for you to be able to move forward and create a healthier, more respectful and supportive relationship. However, if through this process you find that you wish to separate, it will support you through this difficult time. Counselling could give you the starting point you need to get yourself back on track. It will help you to talk about what is troubling you, to share what you are going through and voice openly to someone that can support and help you to move forward. It can also help you explore yourself and your life, work out what you want and need and to enable you to make this become a reality.
My training in Relationship Therapy and experience of working for Relate for 11 years, has given me a wide range of experience of working with couples and individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and issues.
This has enabled to expand my capabilities and skills to have successfully helped many couples and individuals struggling with their relationships.
As an experienced couple counsellor, I have many years of working with couples from many different backgrounds, religions and personalities. I am warm, approachable and professional, but also non judgment and impartial.
What can you expect from the sessions?
The sessions are ongoing and are not fixed. I will work with your agenda and tailor the sessions to your needs. I welcome feedback, work transparently and review regularly in order to check if we are going in the right direction.
Training, qualifications & experience
Why am I a counsellor and coach?
A friend of mine once said that I am "a natural." I assumed what he meant was that I am good with people and I agree with him that I am, but counselling requires more that just being good with people. It also requires training and my training started about 20 years ago.
What is my training?
My training started with Psychotherapy, which can be described as a way of working that uses psychological principles for the purpose of assisting people to modify their behaviours, cognitions, emotions and enable them to achieve their desired outcome.
My training continued to evolved by adding a Systemic approach. Humans do not live in isolation, we live as part of a system. Our families are a system and that system influences our behaviour, cognition and emotion. We come into this world with our personalists, but our environment has an impact on this. Our environment can either nurture or hinder our growth, can influence how we think and how we behave with ourselves and with others and how we form relationships.
Through my work with RELATE, I became involved in a project that involved working short term with women who were in abusive relationships. Prior to this project a great deal of my work had been long term, so working short term, I discovered that by using more of a coaching approach I could work more affectively.
The next step was training as a Coach. Adding coaching to my capabilities meant working more creatively to enabling change. I use a collaborative solution-focused approach. As a coach I work to facilitate change and growth. Coaching has given me are more tools, more skills and more ways to assist people to achieve more. I have also trained as a NLP practitioner, adding more tools and techniques with my practice.
So going back to what my friend said, yes I am "a natural" who also now has a great deal of knowledge, skills and expertise to enable clients to create a better future for themselves.
