About me

I understand how difficult it is to ask for help, the courage it takes to admit when you need it and then the strength to actually seek help. I also appreciate how odd the idea of talking to a complete stranger is but I also know the value of doing that. Speaking to someone with no agenda, no judgement who is there just for you, to really hear you and sit alongside you as you explore often very painful experiences. I aim to do this with you with kindness and compassion and to encourage you to find your own self-compassion. I work holistically encouraging you to find tools and recognise your own resources for strengthing your emotional resilience so you're able to manage the challenges you face in a more positive way. This I believe encourages greater confidence and makes a start towards positive mental health and well-being and a move towards you realising your potential.

I have been working with adults & young people on issues of diversity, self-esteem, bullying, transition, crime prevention, sexual health and alcohol & drugs awareness for twenty years. I believe in your autonomy and right to be heard, respected and valued no matter what age, gender, race, religion, physical ability or sexual orientation.

I am experienced in working creatively with both young people and adults using sand-tray work, art, roleplay, archetype cards amongst other tools. I integrate creativity into the therapy with the permission of and for the benefit of my clients.

Why Counselling?

Counselling offers you the space to talk about and reflect on issues that may be holding you back and affecting your potential for greater happiness. It is an opportunity for you to release emotional stress and, with the support of another, begin to explore who you are, where you want to be in life and how to get there. It is a chance to look at the past in the present to shape your future. I offer a safe space for you to explore the difficulties facing you which can include stress, depression, anxiety, anger, identity, relationships (family, intimate & social), bereavement, addiction, suicidal thoughts & low self-esteem or simply feeling sad. I work integratively drawing on Gestalt and Transactional Analysis whilst rooted in Person Centred counselling and so offer you empathy, honesty and non-judgement. I tailor my approach to suit each individual; always bearing in mind that I am not the expert on you - you are.

Adolescent Counselling (13 - 19yrs)

Having worked with young people for a number of years as a workshop leader and a counsellor, I am struck by their willingness to engage with counselling and their strive for happiness & self-improvement. Often decisions are made by adults and carers in that person's life and it may be that a young person has been referred to counselling by someone else, however most young people find counselling to be extremely beneficial. I offer a safe and confidential space for young people to talk about the difficulties facing them today. The sessions are led by them and, as with adults, they are treated respectfully and without judgement. I work with a wide range of issues including bullying, anxiety, depression, self-harm, identity & self-esteem, self-image, transition, drugs & alcohol, adoption, relationships - social, intimate & family.

I bring to my coaching clients the experience of having worked extensively in arts, business & education both as an employee, a self-employed person and I have over ten years experience of running my own business. I understand the stresses that work can bring as well as the joys. Through coaching I offer my clients the chance to vent their work-life frustrations as well as to celebrate their successes. As the sessions build up you will gain more insight into the positive and negative patterns created by you and others at work. This is a chance to develop yourself professionally by reflecting on your own working practices and working relationships. You will start to understand more about your professional motivation and what drives you. You will look at how best to anticipate and reduce work stress and conflict with the end aim of having work/ life harmony.
