About me

On a deep level there are so many things which unite us all as a human race but paradoxically there are so many things which make us all so different. I see that when it comes to the approach of therapy, every person is individual and unique in how they move through their process. Different things work for different people and this means that we will go at your pace and work in a way which suites you the best. This way, any changes or new ways of being are more likely to be permanent, as they will match with your own personal values. Empowerment of who you are and what you stand for is a part of the way I work with people.

The idea of healthy self-love or offering compassion to one's self can seem like an alien concept to so many people. We might have never learnt how to do these things, or certain parts of society or another person/people may have destroyed our self-esteem. It is possible to feel better about who we are and therefore stronger at our core. The better we feel in ourselves, the better we can deal with any internal or external problems we have or situations we may face.

It can be very hard to ask for help for many reasons, a fear of being judged is one of those reasons. This is why counselling is such a valuable experience for a person. I will not judge you and you will have the opportunity to share openly what you are going through whilst feeling validated, valued and understood.

I run my own private practice online through video call, or telephone, whichever you prefer.

Whether you're feeling depressed, anxious, stuck, frustrated, or have experienced a trauma or loss, we can work together to find the best way forward for you.

If you would like to book the first session with me, just give me a call, email or contact me through this profile. If I am unable to take your call please leave an answer phone message and I will get back to you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications

I began by completing a certificate in higher education in counselling at level 4 at Sheffield Hallam University. Here I gained knowledge of many different approaches to counselling and ways of working with clients.

The type of counselling I chose to practise was the person-centred approach, and this lead me to study and learn how to practise this type of therapy at Calderdale College in Halifax. Here I completed a Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling at level 5 which qualified me as a person-centred counsellor.

I have also gained a BSc in Therapeutic Counselling degree at Leeds Metropolitan University to further my knowledge of the therapeutic world. This gave me a vast insight into the nature of human beings and added to my professional development.

Training and continuing professional development

I have completed training courses in........

  • Self-harm awareness,
  • Safe guarding children,
  • The use of Cognitive behavioural therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder,
  • Court skills,
  • Interviewing skills,
  • Forensic awareness,
  • Understanding dissociation and complex dissociative disorders.
  • Working with men who have experienced sexual abuse.
  • Vicarious Trauma.

Work Experience in the Helping Profession

I currently run my own private practice in High Green, Sheffield and I also see clients referred from Health Assured who are an employment agency program (EAP).

I previously worked as a therapeutic counsellor for The Leeds Wellbeing Centre and also at Wellspring Complimentary Health Centre in Hillsborough, Sheffield. Along side this I have counselled many clients at Barnsley Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Service (BSARCS) over the span of 9 years.

My very first experience working in the helping profession was as a befriender for Halfway Befriending Scheme. This role required me to help people back into the community after they had suffered periods of depression, anxiety and isolation.

I have also volunteered for The National Self-Harm Network which consisted of helping people who self-injure, along with their friends and families.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
