About me

There are times in our lives when we recognise that our wellbeing is being impacted by something, such as, relationship issues, a traumatic event, bereavement, work issues and transitions in our lives. Any of these issues could be occurring in present day or be from our past and can leave many mixed emotions including feelings of anxiety, panic or depression. However, there are also times when we experience these feelings and emotions but cannot pinpoint any 'reason' which may leave you confused or feeling sad. Either way, these feelings and issues are affecting your life and counselling can help with clarity and self-awareness. I will work alongside you with warmth and empathy on a journey to discover understanding, goals, acceptance or changes you may want to implement into your life.

What I can offer...

My core therapeutic approach is person centred and existential, working holistically and exploring your world with you as the expert. At times I do draw on a variety of other approaches to enable me to work with you in a way that suits your needs and agenda recognising that you are an individual with your own perspectives on issues, beliefs, emotions and feelings.

I work on a one to one basis offering both short term and long term therapy and which would work best for each client would be established through initial assessment and regular evaluations during ongoing therapy.

Something about me and my experience...

I named my counselling service ‘your space’ because the time in the counselling session is solely your space to explore at your own pace what is going on for you, whilst feeling listened to and supported in a confidential therapeutic relationship.

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Code of Ethics and Principals.

I am a self-employed counsellor, working in private practice.

I work with 2 Wish Upon a Star (www.2wishuponastar.org), providing bereavement support to children, young people and adults following the loss of a child.

I work for Ty Hafan as a sessional counsellor and also for various EAP providers.

Previously.............

I worked for the nhs as a primary care counsellor and IPT therapist for just over 5 years.

I have also worked for Action for Children and Barnardos as a School Based Counsellor

For a number of years I worked for Cardiff University both in Student Support and Staff Counselling.

I volunteered with Cruse Bereavement Care for five years, which also included telephone counselling.

Thank you for taking the time to explore my profile. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have that can help you decide if I would be the right therapist for you.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
