A. Roya Hamid-Pourmohamedian Creative Arts Therapist (Drama)
My approach as a Dramatherapist is client-centred and play based. This means that I work collaboratively with the client to work at their pace in an open and honest way. The aim of client-centred therapy is to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. It is through the relationship that change and development can take place.
Dramatherapy is an expressive form of psychotherapy that uses action methods, such as DRAMA, STORY AND PLAY to help us understand how we can change ourselves and the way we live. It offers alternative and creative ways of communicating and understanding what is often difficult to put into words and at times overwhelming to deal with.
Dramatherapy is a process and requires commitment and time. Dramatherapy provides an objective space to reflect, gain insight and work through challenges and difficulties to promote change and transformation.
Dramatherapy is a confidential and non-judgemental space that offers encouragement and unconditional regard to whatever thoughts and feelings the client brings.
I work in schools with children, young people and adults.
It is much easier to explore how we feel using creative methods; movement, sound, metaphor, story, enactment, small object work, art, clay, puppets and mask. The life/story connection can then be made and reflected on in with the Dramatherapist.
